I think the message is 'good work Sos, stay sharp if we need a fill in in the top 5'.

Fair enough too. Rogers has done enough to deserve to play his last five tests, and barring an abysmal game against Essex Voges' form demands a spot.
Hope that's the case. Just worried a bit because he did score a ton in his lone innings.

Yeah I know, but if Watto bowls against Essex I think both Marsh's tons will do no more than keep them at the front of the queue.

Smarsh has probably got Rogers' spot locked in for Bangladesh and Watto might not even make it that far.

Comparable to Haddin?
Hard to say. Haddin's keeping has been super weird for a couple years now. He takes unbelievable catches that no one else would ever even get close to, then misses regulation stumpings that a blind 95 year old would easily make.

Nevill's more consistent, but not as brilliant

How good is Nevill behind the stumps?
His keeping is better than his batting IMO. The fact that he's kept well in Sheffield Shield cricket was something pretty much everyone expected, but that he's batted so well has been more of a surprise. MacGill for example has long stated that he's actually the best gloveman in the country, and while I'm no wicket keeping expert I've watched him keep a fair bit for NSW and haven't seen anything to make me disagree. As Jack says, always looks very neat.

Outsiders looking in will see someone who averages 44 with the bat in First Class cricket and plays as a specialist batsman for NSW when Haddin is available and probably think "Hmm, another Wade?" but I'm actually pretty confident his keeping will be good in Test cricket. Whether he adjusts quickly to unique demands of keeping in England is another matter, as is whether he can take that sort of batting success up another level, but his glovework will be good overall IMO.

Indicative of poor/failing technique; sometimes those catches are genuinely unbelievable, but quite often (speaking more generally here) a lot of the great-for-tv diving catches shouldn't require dives at all.

ABdV is a prime example -- he takes a lot of 'brilliant' catches because he's naturally athletic and can make up for not being a well-drilled, technically-sound 'keeper. Guys with better technique take them on their feet because their sideways movement (and anticipation, I guess) is far, far superior.

The best 'keepers, from a technical perspective, are generally the ones you rarely notice.

Building from that, you often get guys with really good technique who inexplicably drop simple catches -- they do all the right things, but their hands can sometimes let them down (thinking Jack Russell here, and perhaps it's also somewhat applicable to Hartley). Nev seems to have safe hands as well as good technique. Prasanna Jayawardene-esque, perhaps?

That sounds promising. Hopefully MacGill's certificate automatically implies he's a good keeper to spinners too.

He should have had a chance in the WI series imo.

I haven't done analysis but Rads batting seems to just be the usual decent at home but not away.

I think they want him playing all 5 unless he starts keeping like Wade.

Hasn't been 'keeping that well either, tbh.

Nev's straight-up a better package.
He's been keeping better than Wade. Not that that's hard. A test in the WI would have been useful if Rad is done when Rogers is. The selectors aren't worried I guess.
