Anyone noticed the Woakes fans don't go crying to the media depending on where he bats? **** the WACA ton, that's enough to have him ahead in the pecking order IMO.

He was obviously taking the piss. If every newbie who played a poor shot was dropped instantly, we'd have about half as many great batsmen.

I don't keep up with much domestic cricket around the world but if there's reasonable depth in the West Indies then I'd drop Blackwood.

Shai Hope is the next in line, he's more technically correct than Blackwood, a very good prospect. Still, you can't drop him for that, he's had a great start to his test career and he's faced some tough opposition. If he does something equally boneheaded in Grenada then I'd agree but for now he needs to play.

You have to look Test class to end up with fans in the first place... :

Nah, I've said in this thread that I wouldn't play Stokes in the next Test with Ali back. I just don't think it does any good to be trying to stuff him in the side in any which spot, which was done in the Indian series last year. Woakes should always play ahead of Stokes if you're talking about a number 8.

On R5 this morning, Vaughan and Swann were saying that Moeen and Rashid should replace Jordan and Tredwell for the 2nd test.

Sounds reasonable to me, albeit a bit harsh on Tredwell.

Would much rather see Wood play than Plunkett, it is certainly not a deciding factor but I don't think we can ignore Jordan's catching, especially if we are going to use a lot of spin in this match.

TBF to Plunkers, and I used to be one of his biggest detractors Version 2.0 looks pretty decent. Would still rather we give Wood a go. I must admit I thought Liam was Injured, but he did play all the Lions games I see, wouldn't hate it if he had a go.

We just need a bit of variety, someone that can bowl genuinely quick.

I was meaning for today, as you could have Stokes, Buttler, Plunkett, Tredwell, Broad and Anderson if they deemed Moeen not yet fit enough to bowl the overs required. Might be irrelevant anyway if Tredders is injured.

We know the pitch is flat, and we're going to need good bowlers to get anything out of it. 5 quality batsmen plus batting very low will get us enough runs (number 10 has a test match 170), and even if Rashid is not considered the finished product yet, just give him his chance and he may be the future, we know for sure Treadwell isn't.
Only England could persist with a makeshift opener who was good 2 years ago, over an actual opener, who as good as won his side the championship last year, and is still young enough to have a good future as an England batsman.
I'm not sure whats going on with Broad, but its not that long ago he was world class, and hes still young enough to pull it back.
The youth in this England team (along with guys like Lees, Vince, Hales and Meaker) look really good for a dominant side in a few years, if we give them a good go.

I wouldn't object to Moeen, but from what I'm hearing he doesn't have the fitness right now to bowl a proper spell. You can't justify his selection as a specialist batsman
