Explain to me how Tendulkar and Ponting are statistically dead even. Tendulkar averages more, scored more runs, more centuries, played more matches, played for many many more years, faced better bowlers of the '90s and also McGrath-Warne, averages 40+ in all countries unlike Ponting. What makes Ponting statistically 'dead even' with Tendulkar?

Edit: I also think Tendulkar has better peak imo (1993-2010: more test runs in that period than anyone else's career, at an average of 60).
Might help if you didn't selectively feign deafness yet again and read the very next sentence after the one you quoted.
Yea there is no way you can argue that Ponting and Tendulkar are dead-even statistically.. Ponting just had 2 Bradmanesque years in his career which means nothing when comparing two players statistically.

Of the modern era batsmen only Lara and Sanga have arguable points for them when doing a statistical comparison vs Tendulkar imo.

This is talking of Tests of course.. in ODIs Sachin wins hands down (at least until AB retires).

Oh! This thread is getting worse and worse.

Just when you thought Furball's Ashes > All else nonsense was hilarious, Burgey comes in with a garbage bag.

Viriya's posts don't seem so bad now, in comparison.
I doubt your much different. I have a feeling you bring up Ponitng and Warne's record in India every time you can.

Lara, Ponting, Tendulkar are undoubtedly the 3 modern greats.

Waugh, Sangakarra, Kallis, Dravid are all greats too but you can't quite put them on the same level. If Ponting and Lara had played a dozen tests each against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe or half their games on roads like Sanga they could be averaging 70+.
Oddly, this never gets appriciated when discussing Murali vs Warne. Suddenly those roads turn in to viciously spinning dustbowls at a wink.

Yesssssss. Finally.

I have a theory that, left open long enough, any thread comparing two cricketers on CW will eventually boil down into a Murali vs Warne debate and will feature Sachin Tendulkar. It's CW's version of Godwin's Law.

Glad to have some more evidence to put towards that :)

Bonus marks if someone can drag Bradman into this (apart from use of the term 'Bradmanesque').

- Didn't get all his wickets on dustbowls
- never played against minnows
- bowled with straight arm
- Has far more ashes wickets

Warne obvious winner.

Ponting's record in India, and Warne's record against India - yes I think they are important when we are discussing either of the 2 especially Warne. What's your point?

Perfectly acceptable to bring up Pontng's record in India, it's actually quite good.

662 runs in 14 tests with an average of 26.48 with a sub-20 score 72% of the times and single-digit score 10 times - actually quite good indeed.
