Reverse swing shouldn't be a factor at all in ODIs. The balls are 25 overs old at the end of an innings FFS!

I don't know if my view of cricket is too 'Ye Olde', but as far as I'm concerned bowlers should be swinging the thing conventionally for more than the first 2 overs from each end. Seriously, Greg Blewett used to hoop outswingers all through the innings.
Southee was still getting conventional swing in the 30th over in the game against England.

Yeah but the reason why reverse is an asset is because it swings more at pace. A 35 year old ball may swing conventionally too but it won't be anywhere near as dangerous as a reversing ball. Just watch Zaheer with the old ball in 2011.

Yeah, but he's certainly in a minority there. Not saying Southee/Boult can't at all; we've seen it pretty often from them. But FMD half of the bowlers at this World Cup are straight up-and-down, or in the case of spinners, unable to extract turn or vary flight. Unsurprisingly, they're all cannon fodder when a batsman gets going.

I've seen reverse swing with 2 new balls in almost all the games played in Australia. Every full yorker after the 35th seems to reverse a little bit.

It's never really reversed in NZ.
No, I agree that there is still reverse swing in the game even with 2 new balls, but I definitely disagree that it's been in almost all games, because I definitely haven't seen that. Most of the time it hoops a little bit but it always seems to me that it's just beginning of reverse instead of the big, hooping deliveries that I associate with reverse swing.
