This isn't the flattest pitch in history, this isn't due to bigger bats, this isn't due to fielding restrictions, this is just the bar being set higher and higher in cricket.
Nah come on mate, I can't take that seriously. Sure west Indies bowled piss at the death and NZ played brilliantly, but the bats and field restrictions help. A lot.

I reckon this is probably not the best time to discuss such stuff, invariably this will come across as undermining someone's innings or being a sore loser (not saying you are or I am btw).

Well said by Glenn McGrath on Fox Sports. Batsmen have taken batting to a new level in recent times. It's time for bowlers to do the same.

Haha yeah which is why I'm saying in every post that NZ batted brilliantly. Can never be too careful.

I think they have - consistently getting to tons as bowlers is not something you saw a decade ago.

And they helped just fine in the previous NZ game at this ground too. We've had big bats and fielding restrictions for years. The powerplay is not a new thing. Big bats are not a new thing. Sure they can play a part but where was the uproar when they first came on to the scene? Is ODI cricket being a game where 275 is the average innings a much worse game then one where it is 225?

This isn't Test cricket. Being pleased for a bowler when he goes at under 5.5 an over isn't that much more difficult to him going under 4.0. It's a change in the mindset at home over what is "good", both sides get the benefit.

Agreed. Something needs to be done after the world cup though.

Oh trust me, I tried really really hard not to undermine Rohit's 264 when it was scored lol.

Anyways I hope WI at least try to chase this down, worst thing would be for them to get bundled for 100-150 or so.

For me this is what has to happen:

-all boundaries are to be pushed back as far as possible
-not limiting a size on bats per se but on edges: when edges are as wide as bat faces we'll be getting more edges going to the crowd than to the cordon
-replace pp at the start with a five over bowling pp where as many fielders as the captain desires are allowed out of the ring that has to be taken before over 30
-change to the umpires call system with reviews being given back if the decision is an umpire's call

The whole balance thing is really setting me off because it's just the opposite of our whole WC campaign so far. We've been rolling teams low and had a low scoring thriller on a flat pitch against Australia. Big scores like this are not common in AU/NZ. It swings here and the boundaries are so long there.

Again, I'm not saying the batsmen changing their mindset hasn't contributed. But a mere change in attitude isn't what's caused scoring to balloon up to crazy proportions. It's a lot of factors coming together. And bats and field restrictions are two factors which are flat out unfair to bowlers.

I personally believe it's the T20 game changing how the modern batsman structures their innings. Build for 30-35 launch for 15-20.

All the teams that are scoring big bat this way. And all Englands that are England bat their own way.

Windies should have given up trying to bowl yorkers in the 45th over LOL . Its funny you know , Guppy was struggling for a bit of form and the NZ public were calling for him to be dropped in January. So glad the NZ public's whinging gets ignored. In Guppys case class is permanent and form temporary.
Its amazing that some commentators still don't consider NZ to have world class players. Far as Im concerned Guppys 237 just elevated him to world class status. Boult , Southee , Vettori and Macca are world class.
