Just been chatting to a mate about that. Read an article yesterday 'Ten times WWE threw money down the drain' which was a pretty average article tbh, and I said to my mate, Cena never going after the streak belongs on there (on the basis they used other matches that never happened in the E, such as Hogan-Flair at WM8, on the list). However, I kinda think they might have considered doing it in 2012, but then The Rock came back and we had Rock-Cena. And it drew big. Biggest Mania PPV buyrate ever. So that probably killed it.

And now there's no streak, though I'm sure they could still work a good angle out of it one day if Taker was able to.
Yeah, I agree, but there would have been something awesome about the streak being on the line as well. I wouldn't have wanted Cena to break it, but the way he's been booked so strong over the years would have really made people sat up and take notice. There would have been an incredible buzz about the whole thing. I'd still like to see such a match, but it wouldn't quite have the same shine, bar some very good storytelling.

Tbf to the WWE, though it probably was a huge missed opportunity. In all the Manias since WM21 one of Taker or Cena have been involved in really high profile feuds/great matches, and it'd be tough to say that any of them ought have been nixed in order to put the two of them together. Ships passing in the night, I guess.

It's a shame though, because I can barely think of them having even many TV matches since their feud in Cena's early days. Think there was a triple threat on raw around 09, possibly had HHH in as well. Other than that can't think of much really.

Like you say, people would have really believed Cena actually had a chance to break it.

Duffer, not sure I agree that Vickie was exploited, they gave her a job to look after her in the wake of what happened to Eddie and she was damn good at it
One way of looking at it. At the time it felt like she was over for all the wrong reasons, never struck me as being that good a heel. Was more disgusted by the whole thing, they could've found something for her off camera.

She was a heat machine. No way was that Xpac heat.

I always thought Vicki was a really detestable old-fashioned type heel tbh - got a bit tired of her by the end of her run mind you

Just had a look on YouTube, and they had a 1 v 1 match on RAW in 2006. I have no memory of it whatsoever.

Haha just came across this. Heel HBK is so great - has the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand here.

Imagine how much the roof would have come off if Bret actually did return at this moment though.

It's a real shame that Jericho vs Angle only ever happened as a midcard feud and was very short-lived. Surely if had been done between 2005-2010 it would have been really good.

Also, I'm really disappointed that we never got Cena vs Undertaker at a WM for the streak. Would have loved to have seen that.
God that would've been incredible. It's one of the main reasons I didn't want the streak ended.... not before a match with Cena. That's one guy who fans would be legitimately concerned would beat him.

Trying to think of other matches that would have been great but never happened for one reason or another now.

I guess Rock vs HBK is the really obvious one. Hogan vs Austin is another I suppose (though tbh I'm not personally particularly hung up on this one).

If we'd got Hogan-Austin we might have never got Hogan-Rock (though they did wrestle again so who knows) and I think that's why people don't get too hung up on it.

Austin-Brock an annoying one, and Rock-HBK.

Punk-Austin

Straight edge vs Beer drinking redneck. Both geniuses on the mic. Would've been incredible. Austin was long gone by the time Punk came in though.

Yeah, that was exactly my line of thinking tbh.

Daniel Bryan- Kurt Angle would've produced some of the best matches ever

A shame that Bryan never went to TNA circa 07 before it was a joke. They could have killed it.

Or that Angle never went to ROH I guess. Or stayed sane and with WWE.
