Rey was more impressive athletically in WCW and early WWE run, but storytelling etc got better and better as he got older. The Jericho and Punk feuds really were off the charts.

Shawn was the same really. As he became less capable of certain feats he more than made up for it pscyhologicallu.
That Jericho feud is one of the most underrated ones ever. God y2j was on a roll back then. Produced non stop gold in 2007-2010

There were loads of great promos in that video you linked above, Duffah. But for me the inclusion of the kid (who tbf to him, as you say, did a good job) just cluttered things up, and added nothing to what would have been an emotionally charged feud anyway.

Wrestling for mine is at its worst when it starts to include stuff that is just so ridiculous that nobody could have bought into it. I mean, putting the custody of a child on the line in a wrestling match? Even the most brain-dead redneck hick would have trouble finding that plausible. Rey and Eddie's promos came damn close to breaking the 4th wall and making you think "damn, this could be beyond kayfabe", but then you remembered "oh yeah, the kid....this is bull****".

I personally didn't think it was that bad but now remembering the exploitation of Vickie after Eddie's death I agree that lines were crossed back then. One of the reasons I stopped watching for a long time.

Yeah agree with sledger Eddie and Rey were awesome but the kid was distracting as ****.

That's why Jericho - Hbk was absolutely perfect imo. Genuinely felt like they hated each other even though it was all an act. Also helped that Jericho legit punched Hbk's wife in the mouth and next match Shawn legit knocked out two of Jericho's teeth.

Was this Mania 19? Incredible match.

Nope. 2008 feud. Was way better than their first feud leading up to mania 19. And the ladder match which ended the feud at no mercy 2008 is honestly better than wm19. It's one of my all time favourite matches. The storytelling in that entire feud was so perfect... Partly because the writers had virtually zero input. It was all Hbk and Jericho's idea. I've never seen any other storyline where each match and promo fed so perfectly into the next. It also intertwined with HBKs feud with Batista in a perfectly logical way. Pure genius throughout imo.

Duffer, not sure I agree that Vickie was exploited, they gave her a job to look after her in the wake of what happened to Eddie and she was damn good at it

Yeah that feud organically led to the Shawn-Taker matches and then HHH-Taker mania clashes, four of the best mania matches ever. It's how good pro wrestling can be when angles are done properly.

Hmmm, Eddie's death was most definitely exploited though. A lot.

Mysterio winning the world title as tribute to Eddie (which I honestly liked), but you also had Edge sticking his tongue down Vickies throat because he was a heel, Orton saying in a promo that Eddie went to hell.... It just reeked of trying to go for cheap shock value. Was cringe worthy.

Yeah. Taker vs Michaels part two was only possible because Hbk cost Taker the title at the elimination chamber which led to Jericho winning. Basically, Shawn wanted to beat Taker so much that he was willing to let the man He hated most win the title. Not many people picked up on that. That was the true end of their feud.

Yeah sure - but Vickie herself wasn't exploited. IMO.

Let's all just be glad they didn't exploit the Benoit death.

It's a real shame that Jericho vs Angle only ever happened as a midcard feud and was very short-lived. Surely if had been done between 2005-2010 it would have been really good.

Also, I'm really disappointed that we never got Cena vs Undertaker at a WM for the streak. Would have loved to have seen that.

Jericho's world title run, short though it was, was so good. He was so ****y in that best of the world gimmick anyway, and having the belt to confirm it just took him to another level.

From NXT:

Cole: Who did you vote for in the pros' poll Chris?
Jericho: Wade Barrett
Cole: But you weren't allowed to vote for your own rookie
Jericho: I can do what I want, I'm world champion.

Just been chatting to a mate about that. Read an article yesterday 'Ten times WWE threw money down the drain' which was a pretty average article tbh, and I said to my mate, Cena never going after the streak belongs on there (on the basis they used other matches that never happened in the E, such as Hogan-Flair at WM8, on the list). However, I kinda think they might have considered doing it in 2012, but then The Rock came back and we had Rock-Cena. And it drew big. Biggest Mania PPV buyrate ever. So that probably killed it.

And now there's no streak, though I'm sure they could still work a good angle out of it one day if Taker was able to.
