Warner telling Rohit to speak English casts quite a lot of doubt on this.I am not saying we don't sledge and yes Virat gives as good as he gets.. But racism is where the line is crossed, the exchange between Rohit and Warner would obviously have been in English, so if Warner still mouthed "speak English" that to me is a racial slur and needs to be dealt with I hope this is not just swept under the carpet.
Speak English Furball.Warner telling Rohit to speak English casts quite a lot of doubt on this.
It's an unacceptable thing to say, no doubt. A suspension would be the minimum if it were true, one would think.Well there is no denying he's a phenomenal player, I actually wouldn't want him banned and I for one don't think he's racist, but just that that was uncalled for as a comment
So just because a known bad boy says "speak English" you think Rohit wasn't? You are either incredibly biased or incredibly naive.Warner telling Rohit to speak English casts quite a lot of doubt on this.
The thing about saying "speak English" is that it's an extremely stupid thing to say, like all racism I guess. So just because a known bad boy says "speak English" you think Rohit wasn't? You are either incredibly biased or incredibly naive.
For your information Rohit speaks extremely good English and he probably has a better command of English than a few of the Australian players.

That's great. Is English Rohit's first language, and do you think it's at all possible that if English is not Rohit's mother tongue, that he might have decided to give a few verbals in Warner's direction in his mother tongue, hence Warner's "speak English" comment? So just because a known bad boy says "speak English" you think Rohit wasn't? This is a weird post hendrix. The thing about saying "speak English" is that it's an extremely stupid thing to say, like all racism I guess.
Indian English for those who spoke it in school is without a doubt more grammatically correct and "textbook" English than Australasian English. It's also phonetically more accurate; NZ and Aussies don't differentiate between "beer", "bare" and "bear", for example. Or "poor" and "pore". I have no doubt that Rohit Sharma's Indian accent is easier to understand for an American or an Englishman than David Warner's Aussie drawl.
Of course there are Indians for whom English was never a conversant language (Jadeja seems like one of those people), but then expecting them to speak English well is again extremely stupid. Of course he's not going to be good at English.
Very good post! I agree with everything that you say here, it was an unsavoury comment from Warner which has no place in Cricket. The thing about saying "speak English" is that it's an extremely stupid thing to say, like all racism I guess.

Nah, the logic is that the player is a cowardly **** who doesn't have the stones to sledge someone in a language they can understand.Sledging in foreign language is pretty common practice ftr. Happens in club cricket in London all the time. Guess the logic is it gets in the batsman's head a bit if they're trying to think what could have been said.
Yes I mean even out in the shires you get that kind of thing.Sledging in foreign language is pretty common practice ftr. Happens in club cricket in London all the time. Guess the logic is it gets in the batsman's head a bit if they're trying to think what could have been said.
