I think his dead rubber average is 45.21. However, since the 13 Ashes, it's gone up to 67.4, including today

Smith has been scoring heaps of runs in other conditions throughout 2014, not just at home.

Smith scored runs against England and South Africa. Against Australia Root generally struggled.

I'm surprised how few teams he's played, but he's done very well. 67 at home, 34 in England, 40 in India, 67 in South Africa and 43 in the UAE.

That's an excellent record for a youngster.

Look at their career records, they're virtually identical. Both have bullied India. Root averages 33 against Australia and Smith 37 against England &. The only thing in Smith's favour is a ton against South Africa and Root is yet to play against them. Not suggesting either is better, but let's not make out their records are remarkably different.
