Wow, if you're honestly thinking that way, you'd want to be getting some lazy dollars on SL with those odds wouldn't you?
If I had some lazy dollars, yeah. Had a few bachelor parties over the last month. Cutting into my clothing fund tbh.

For those who remember the sub-fielder debate from the 1st Test, I was reading my 1980 Wisden today and noted the following comment on an atrocious fielding display by NZ against Pakistan at Christchurch.

"Miandad had not scored in the first innings when he spooned up the simplest of catches to Anderson, a substitute fieldsman, at mid-on. It went to ground"

Miandad made 81 in a decisive innings in the Test.

The name of the offending Anderson isn't noticed, but the only Anderson playing to a reasonable standard in NZ at the time was this chap: Peter Anderson | New Zealand Cricket | Cricket Players and Officials | ESPN Cricinfo

I guess things haven't changed much in 30 years.

Think we need at less 350
350 runs or a 350 lead? This same seam attack defended 350 easily on a Colombo highway. There is still enough in the pitch to keep the seamers interested, and Sanga isn't going to play an ATG innings every time. Throw in the fact that us reaching 350 would involve the bowlers enjoying nearly 2 full days of rest, and a tired SRL top order, and I would be veeeery confident of us winning (or at least not losing).

Heath, Kiwininja etc., is this test more or less enjoyable without Dan and me there?

Less right?

How good is the value on SL here

Worth a quiet 50 at least. Last time I said something was a sure thing was also at the Basin, just under 12 months ago against India. Think they were paying $1.80 and I said that's the most absurdly easy cash I've ever seen.

Please note cricket gods, this is me saying it again.

To me, 299 to win makes it a 50/50 proposition, anything over 300 is ours. Not enough old wise heads in the SL team to suggest they'd get that, given their 356 included the sort of knock you couldn't hope to see again that soon.

Always a good way for a passionate sports fan to hedge their bets, your team loses, but you win some cash & vice-versa.

Although trust me when I say the worst money I ever received was at the back of the All Blacks' exit of the 2007 WC. Almost felt like burning it.

So far I've got coin on NZ at $3.2 and then again at about $5.50, Coin on Sri Lanka at $4.80 and coin on the draw at $3.70.

I remember a South Africa vs Australia series once where I got above $5.00 on every option hedged.

I made so much money off of Richard Kraijicek's career too - back him against anyone that didn't have a great serve regardless of career positioning and then back the first player in the tournament he came up against with a good serve. Very rarely lost on him.

$1.95 on SRL at the TAB atm is still very good value. Either of Watling or KW nick off early tomorrow and that's all she wrote. You can also hedge the draw in the unlikely event of rain given that it's currently paying nearly $10.

Exactly right. Head-heart bets, I call them. I don't bet on anything but golf majors anymore, but did this with the Warriors GF in 2002 and 2011. Much like you, much rather have parted with the cash.

I'd be very willing to part with 50 hard-earned to see an NZ win, which it'd certainly be if it wasn't an SL draw (pending weather).

Replace KW with Baz and you have my #Wellington2014thoughts.
