*Official* English Football Season 2014-15

Wasn't Jason McAteer supposed to be of abnormally low intelligence, even as footballers go? Used to be known as "Village", as in village idiot.

Yes he was, the Liverpool team were always joking about it.

Harry Kane, has he gone to the top of the list as most irritating over-hyped England player of the moment?

Yeah, strikes me as a definite flavour of the month type player that Spurs seem to constantly produce. Anyone remember Dean Marney?

Apparently when asked how many slices he wanted his pizza cut into he asked for 4 slices as he wasn't sure he was hungry enough to eat 6.

Tbf to Kane he is scoring at a stupid rate this season. It's just that no one really knows how to react to it when nearly all of it is Europa League and League cup stuff.

^With the contempt both competitions deserve?

(so bad we wanted nothing to do with either)

Reckon people will start treating the Europa League with less content when they suddenly start getting jealous of the winner being in the Champions League next year.

Should have implemented that idea a long time ago imo. Even as a kid I thought it was strange that the winners of the UEFA Cup didn't auto-qualify for the Champions League.

On an unrelated note, I really miss the World Cup :(

Have just been watching a highlights video of the 2006 WC, and now sitting here in the dark, with it raining outside, I am remembering how great it was in the summer being able to watch all those matches. Boo.

The World Cup subforum was so good too.

Wish it was still the UEFA, should just be knockout the whole way through.

The real problem is it being on Thursday though, that and Friday are my days off from football, does not really matter what they put on those days I am not going to watch it.

Pretty sure that's only the case because you don't care about the games on those days though. Chicken and the egg thing though, I guess.

Yeah probably. I would be much more likely to watch it in a non-Champions league week though, that is probably not possible though.

Decent first part and last paragraph or two, but he loses credibility for complaining about a cliched negative that should be considered a success. Can't believe people still moan about Wenger only being able to keep Arsenal in England's top 4 and Europe's top 16 when they were financially stricken, rather than focus on the fact that regardless of squad strength, Arsenal will always come up short against sides and managements that have a clue.

There's an element of that but to me Thursday was always the one day when there was absolutely no footy when I first started out watching. Obviously it's been the UEFA Cup/Europa slot for close to twenty years now but it still doesn't feel right to me

But yeah, browsing Arsenal forums, I can't believe the number of Flamini fanboys there are. Doing my head in, he's turned completely **** and is a liability but can do no wrong for most people.

Bit of a hipster club in lots of ways these days. Lots of champage socialist fans and other wealthy middle class types who have recently become interested in football but are too late to jump on the Chelsea bandwagon.

That said, only a select few of the Arsenal fans I know personally come close to fitting this description.

Edit: That said, though I am not a fan of these types of people in general, it does mean that the atmosphere at the Emirates in most games is very family friendly, which I approve of. It may come at the cost of atmosphere, some might argue, but I always feel really sorry for people who bring their kids along to games and end up sat next to someone who spends the entire match screaming profanities at the top of his lungs. "Cow shed language", as my grandmother would have called it.

Edit 2: Despite the above, the worst crowd trouble I have ever seen at a football match was at the Emirates. Loads of fighting in the stands - but I put that down to the Everton fans in attendance being some of the direst people I have ever encountered.
