***Official*** English Domestic Season 2014

Credit to Notts, hell of a chase. Alex Hales on some form at the moment, if he doesn't play in the ODI series the selectors want shooting.

Great knock from young Finch as well, nice to see young English batsmen having the ability to hit boundaries from a young age. Something I always felt we struggled with.

Something weird is going on in this Hampshire innings. Adam Lyth has bowled four overs before Patterson, Pyrah or Williamson have bowled any, and Hampshire have sent in a bloke who averages 8 from 44 matches in at number six.

With rafiq leaving, Yorkshire probably need to have a good look at lyth's offbreaks. Hampshire are just resting players with t20 finals day in mind. Hampshire def 1 bat short.

Lyth's offies are not going to be a substitute for a main spinner departing. They'll be looking at Karl Carver (England under-19s SLA) as their backup to Rashid

Yes but they're pronably gonna need Lyth to potentially bowl in this 50 over comp in the quarters and if they move forward in that competition. I assume they were just going through their options.

Footit is a really improved bowler isn't he? Can see why he's taken a fair few wickets this year.

Willey's bowling just isn't good enough for international cricket at this point imo. If he was selected he would have to take the new ball because he doesn't really do much apart from swing the new ball into the right hander. But how long does the white ball swing in Australia? and at 78mph he's just gonna get whacked. His batting has promise but is way too inconsistent at present to be relied upon so he would primarily be in the team as a bowler and there are plenty of better bowlers than him however weak england's bowling reserves are.

Couldn't agree more. Gets tonked pretty regularly in domestics as it is, and his figures in the Lions games are poor too. I think the only England side i'd have him near is the T20 team, and that's mostly on his batting

And ended Klinger's season from what I'm hearing. Good win for Derby on Sky, Wainwright pipping Godleman for MoM with his three wickets - although the much-discussed chinaman confused me, I would have expected it to go the other way.

A lot of these players Vince, Taylor, Willey, Topley etc will get chances but likely after the world cup when the inevitable clean out happens. Willey and Topley have been unfortunate at being injured at the start of the year and never really recovering. They just haven't really done enough to push those aside above them.

Vince has failed every chance he's got with the lions both home and away over a range of series. Now the lions aren't the be all and end all but you have to ask why he hasn't been able to put a score together? His form fell away pretty heavily this season as soon as people starting talking about him for the test team. From the outside he doesn't seem the most confident or assured of people in interviews and his mannerisms on the pitch (but that may be completely wrong - amateur psychology over).

Willey is primarily an opening bowler. He bowls a full length and trys to get the new ball to swing into the right hander. I don't think he has the skills to come on first change or bowl during the middle of the innings and he isn't going to be as good a opening bowler as Anderson, Finn or even Broad. He'll get a chance at some point. If he could just get a little more pace out of his run up and action he could be a real find.

Taylor is unfortunate. I'd have selected him ahead of Ballance at the start of the summer. I thought at the time he probably had the better allround odi game. But England selected Ballance. Ballance has really grown into his game and is super confident right now. I don't see the point in changing around now for someone who probably isn't going to make a massive difference.

Hales actually has done what he needed to. He tightened some things up and has scored a load of runs in important games. That's what Vince has to do now.

I would select Vince and Roy tho for the T20 and maybe even Willey.

Have to agree with Nick Knight who has been saying from the start of this tournament that 4 teams going through from each group into quarters (instead of 2 into semis in the 40 over last year) has been a massive improvement and kept games interesting. Plus playing in the second half of the summmer has meant goodish wickets. Plus the structure replicating international cricket (50overs, powerplays, 5 inside the ring) helps get the players ready. Seen a few teams get off to great starts in chases then not really know how to finish off chases - that should improve with experience.

Bopara getting out before the end of Essex's chase is hardly gonna help him get back in the England side.

Can't remember the last time we did this badly in a limited overs competition but then we did play someone called Basil Akram today so it is not all bad.

This season all about getting out of division two anyway, which we really should do now.
