Deadset, has Dhoni ever not won a situation like that? I mean, can anyone name an actual game of cricket where he could have feasibly won the game in the last over and failed to do so?

EDIT: Apart from that tie at Adelaide a few years back

The sense of inevitability that the team wil chase down any total as long as Dhoni is still out there is just incredible. I've not seen anything quite like it from any other player. Not even Bevan, who was magnificent but surely didn't come close to the sheer success rate of Dhoni in such cases. He just doesn't fail.

One thing Dhoni does a bit differently is that he never panics in such situation and never plays a rash shot. He knows the bowler is under pressure and will bowl the odd loose ball and makes full use of it. Even if there are 30 runs to score in 12 balls, and the bowler fires in a good yorker, he won't just play a rash shot and throw away his wicket, he will push for a single or double and try to make use of the remaining 11 deliveries. Most batsmen will just try to hit every ball for a six in such situations and give away wickets. Dhoni keeps his cool and just tries to make the most of each delivery. Today was a really good chance for Faulkner to stop Dhoni from clinching these last over wins, and he was bowling really well, but he didn't get even a single delivery right in the last over.

Absolutely spot on. Most players just lose their heads and slog across the line to balls where you shouldn't even try that. Dhoni just knows that there's no way a bowler will hit 6/6 Yorker (unless it's malinga). Just wants for the inevitable length ball and smokes it.

And if the situation gets really desperate where you need to smash everything, he uses the crease and pull out that ridiculous helicopter.

And not just the helicopter. Goes very close to the stumps and shifts his weight to the back foot and plays that lofted shot over long-on/deep mid-wicket. Turns perfect yorkers into half volleys if he is well set. Usually in ODIs, he hasn't risked it(yet) in t20s.

Is there any other player who's form fluctuates based on his confidence? yuvraj looking like a different player altogether now, an air of inevitablility about his batting in this last 2 innings.

my goodness Yuvraj! You know he's in form when he starts hitting sixes over extra cover. Such a clean striker of the ball this man.

Is this Shukla bloke the best Delhi have at the death? This is dire bowling. Impressive hitting, but this has been a god awful over.

I can't put my finger on why but it's so easy to recognise a Yuvraj Singh six. Hits the most awesome ones.

He was doing pretty well before that. 3 overs for 16 and a wicket.

The first two sixes were excusable because he did bowl according to his field. The rest was pretty average.
