Good on you for taking the feedback on the chin.

I guess I too have never seen a line up with NMac walking in at number 10. At a certain point you can have too many batsman for a number of reasons
a) There are diminishing marginal returns to having that many batsman
b) The later batsman will probably take their time to get their eye in when they walk out to bat in the 19th over because they are proper batsman. People like Southee and Hira are better in those circumstances as they are used to slogging first ball with no sighters. NMac never slogs first ball.
c) Most of the time numbers 9 and 10 will only be in for two-three overs anyway so even if they come off they might only add an extra 5-10 runs.

I'd still pick Southee though - good yorker and variety, along with excellent record in the subcontinent (tests and 2011 WC). I know why he was snapped up the IPL

Yup, you still have to play Southee. I mean, surely he'd be better than Neesham as a pure bowler, so what's the use of having Neesham at 9?

Given the squad. The middle to lower order can all shuffle around depending on the situation. Boult/Mills/Hira could be swapped out for Devcich/Munro, but do you really need to be batting down to 9-10? There's plenty of batting there, methinks.

So yeah they tried Anderson as high as 3 overnight, Munro, Ronchi, Neesham at 6 (his successful Champions League position), then NcCullum at 7.

Agree it's not the most desirable but there's not much alternative to that succession of hit-out-or-get-out players from number 5 down. Not unless we want to push one of our 'real' batsmen (Williamson, McCullum, Taylor) down to five. Only other option I could think of would be that subcontinental low 'n' slow specialist, brutaliser of sub-par bowlers of half-volleys and renowned less-than-cool head in difficult situations, James Franklin. Did an ok job for us in the last T20 WC tbf. However we're still probably better off with the Munro/Devcich, Anderson, Ronchi, Neesham progression - they're hitters but not without nuance - and rolling the dice seems as good a strategy as any.
