Guptill's greatest weakness is himself. His top two inches. The guy is one of the biggest mind-*** I can ever remember playing cricket.
But that's because he's got technical deficiencies. When he plays top level cricket it's a lot harder to score and his whole life he's scored runs a certain way. When some of those options get removed/reduced he struggles to cope. It affects him mentally but it stems from weaknesses technically.

Graeme Smith has technical deficiencies as well (as does Sehwag and several others) , but he's managed to forge a very successful career in spite of this because he know his limitations and is very strong mentally. Guptill's mental frailties are still by far his biggest problem for me.

Yeah fair point. Unfortunately, fixing mental frailties doesn't happen by smoking bowlers all round Eden Park Outer Oval.

I haven't be following a lot of NZ FC of late. Whatever happened to the promising opener Raval?

Styris making the salient point that Latham's domestic runs have come not on the Eden Park Outer Oval or Roadiversity Oval

Graeme Smith has a defensive technique.

Guptill doesn't.

Latham has a monstrous sweep shot but I really hope he limits its use because I can see him going LBW to Jadeja.

Ah that's a shame. Ball hardly went past the bat but 3 took fine edges, go figure. Poor shot none-the-less and Shami deserved a wicket.

Latham still has a hell of a lot of work to do if he wants to make it as a test cricketer. Needs to tighten up a lot around off stump.
