Southee's bowling an excellent spell here. Very consistent in his length.
I'd still get Anderson and Wagner on now, five over spells will mean we can cycle these guys for the rest of the day with maybe a prospecting over from Sodhi or Williamson here and there. This pitch has got something in it when you hit it hard on a length.

Anyone else get the feeling that india turned up just expecting to dominate the ODIs and Tests after their performances in South Africa? i.e "It's just New Zealand, they won't hardly test us.."

No - I think that NZ like to take the underdog tag constantly whether the opposition see them that way or not.

We're 8th in the world in tests. We don't like the underdog tag, we are well deserving of it based on performances accumulated under the Taylor reign.

a reign with more success than the vettori reign. a reign which ended with an overseas victory.

If so, unsure why...they got pumped from dusk to dawn. And how many of this side can claim to be world class? When I mean that, I don't mean Zaheer who hasn't produced much of the sort for two years or Shami who has only played 4 Tests.

Really only Pujara, Kohli and to a lesser extent in Tests, Dhoni. Same amount we have, if not more if you want to argue out of Williamson, Taylor, McCullum, Southee and Boult.

Southee and Boult's effectiveness will drop as soon as the ball starts getting old. They're both young and fit, they should make as much of the new ball as they can with long spells.

We have Wagner, Anderson, Williamson and Sodhi to do the dog duties with the old ball.

need to keep chipping them out here. no where near panic stations or concern yet but if we can score 500 from 30/3 then this lot can.

Those ratings are quite stupid things in my opinion. Though I understand that NZ had a tough time there. But the last few series its been an absolute improvement that surely nobody in their right mind would overlook.
