Yes this is absolutely true, but the problem is that neither McCullum nor Anderson should be batting #5 in ODIs regularly. The spot shouldn't be for a #7/8 but a #5. Watling would give the team much better balance overall IMO. If New Zealand get off to a good start and are only 3 down by the 35th over then Watling shouldn't need to bat at all as there will be plenty of hitting to come from McCullum, Anderson, NcCullum and Neesham if he's playing - hell even Mills/Southee for a couple of overs at the end if need be - but if New Zealand are three down before the 30th over then having someone play the Elliott role at #5 would make much more sense than asking McCullum to do that. The team has too many blokes that just like to tee off.Watling or Ronchi for short format when they're batting at 7 or even 8 shouldn't really matter. I'd prefer that they select a dasher for that position and if they think that Ronchi is better at that then it's fine.
I think that if we were to play the world cup right now, I'd agree with you. But I don't mind Anderson learning to rotate the strike a bit for the next few months rather than being pigeon-holed as a biffer. The man is going to be a long term option at 6 in all formats. Sure Anderson coming in in the 15th over after a mini-collapse wouldn't be ideal, but it'd be nice to let him prove his versatility.Yes this is absolutely true, but the problem is that neither McCullum nor Anderson should be batting #5 in ODIs regularly. Like many problems in the New Zealand setup over time, this one stems back to Brendon McCullum's skillset as a player just being a little over-rated or over-prioritised. He should be opening or he should be finishing, he's not good enough to adapt his game properly at five if NZ lose three early wickets.
There is a gap there with Butler out.Has the T20 squad been announced yet? Just wondering whether James McMillan might have a sniff of a chance, given his form this season.
Yeah, I think so too tbh, at least in ODI cricket.McCullum >>> Watling at rotating the strike
Probably on form, but focus has to be on the WC, McMillian will be almost 37 by than, is injury prone and we can’t afford to carry anyone else in the field, given that our best WC side will include Mills and Vettori.Has the T20 squad been announced yet? This is absurdly untrue.Could put the top 10 most popular beers into homogenous packaging and no-one would be able to distinguish them. Beer is 99% marketing.
it may be an ever-so-slight exaggeration. byt that I just mean all the cheap "blokey" nz beers like tui, lion, db, speights etc etc. Refreshing and pleasant on a hot day? sure, but none of them have any distinctive character imo. This is absurdly untrue.
However, I will just counter my own argument by stating that I had a beer tasting night once, where people had to blind-score each beer out of 40... and one person gave Hollandia 40/40.

Tui most definitely has a distinctive character. Vastly sweeter than any other beer. I don't know how they manage it, and I don't think I want to know. I suspect (cynically, would you believe) that Tui is a gateway to get teenagers into drinking beer.it may be an ever-so-slight exaggeration. byt that I just mean all the cheap "blokey" nz beers like tui, lion, db, speights etc etc. Refreshing and pleasant on a hot day? sure, but none of them have any distinctive character imo.
Nah, it's actually looking pretty good. Depends which site you look at. I normally check the met-forecast and this one Hamilton, New Zealand Weather Forecast which isn't looking like an issue.Tomorrows weather forecast was looking good when I checked this morning. Now there's a chance of evening showers.
