Well, not really. When you are partial what happens is that you form certain expectations from the players and the team as a whole, and so when things don't go your team's way, you are left disappointed at the very least, whereas this is never the case when you are neutral. Plus, you are tensed half of the time, so all in all, it involves just too much negative emotion IMO, well at least for me.

On the other hand, I loved it yesterday when I was treating everyone equally (not forming any attachments with anyone) and not trying to support anyone (being neutral). Also, I noticed that I was staying more in the present, which meant I could enjoy the moment more, instead of worrying even to a small extent about something going on, as it is so often the case (Vijay being in the 90s as an example). Lastly, instead of my mind focusing more on one side of the game due to partiality, I was being able to follow both bowling and batting equally, which was what made it so entertaining I believe.

Basically no expectations (even subconsious ones) = appreciation for cricket without any worries whatsoever. I doubt I'd be able to pull something like that off today though since I hold some negative impressions of Zaheer Khan and his trundler pace :p

Being completely neutral kind of defeats the purpose of being a sports fan, no?
No, it shows your appreciation towards the sport. It becomes quite one dimensional when you are supporting a single country, there is so much good cricket going on, if you are neutral you are more likely to take interest in whatever contest is going on currently regardless of who is playing. And you will appreciate good performances rather than getting upset when your team loses.

Dhoni has no business being the captain of the Indian test team. His team selection is worse than anybody I have seen in a long time.

That was a 50-50 umpiring call and India could have done with a bit of luck. Dropping Ashwin looks like a mistake. Ashwin and Jadeja on this pitch could have been useful and Ashwin would probably have scored more runs than Rohit anyway.

That was a bit of a bonus. I think India needs a top reverse-swinging spell from Shami now to do any real damage.

As i said before, Sir Jadeja these days is a better bowler than most were giving him credit for.
