More chance of a family of hamsters setting up home in my left pocket than there is of an England win tomorrow.

Doubt we will even make 320 actually. Just hope Stokes gets a ton.

I don't see what the problem is at all with studetto's last few posts. The Ashes are still alive and I have no idea why its a bad thing to say "lets create history". That's the exact sort of mentality everyone who's team is behind should be thinking.

If Australia were in the exact same situation that England are in, I would be dreaming of us pulling this off. The first hour is going to be important, if England survive the first 13 overs, two batsman with their eye in against the new ball is going to be helpful for them.
Because the rhythms of Test cricket generally don't allow for that sort of optimism. Teams come close all the time but hardly ever finish off the job. It's mentally draining and that's what makes the game so wonderful.

I'm completely aware of what usually happens and understand that it would be a massive achievement from here.

Anyway, good day of Test Cricket - 385 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

The point being that in international sport you should never give up hope even if history is against you. That's what made Waugh such a brilliant captain, it was that optimism and determination that gave Hayden, Langer and the rest the belief that they too could become greats of the game. Defeatism is not acceptable for a captain or team... ever. Young Stokes might get his ton tomorrow, if he does I expect English fans to at least celebrate that. Even 70 in this situation is a big positive.

So this is totally unrelated, but according to Mickey Arthur on today's TMS lunch podcast, the whole "homework" thing was instigated by a directive/suggestion/whatever from Arthur to basically stop sweeping early on in the innings.

And then three batsmen got out in half an hour playing the sweep. Hence the need for reflection or "homework".

They should have dropped the ****s then and there tbh.

Was an interesting interview. Loving being able to listen to TMS this series.

It always seemed a risky shot to me. Some batsmen never learn but, or they just can't help themselves.

I think it must be a bit two paced. The number of edges that have fallen short has been bizarre - for both sides - and the only way that can be the case is if some are racing through and some aren't.
