Well it's been pretty poor from our lot!!..Best is just being the same old "Best"...no brain and just wasted pace, Gabriel has been very disappointing and merely continuing his poor form from the regional competitions and what can you say about Sammy? an absolute JOKE!!..but this is what the selectors wanted and we're gonna pay their incompetence now!!.

I quite like Fulton. PEWS was making the point that Bangladesh would always take a batsman that will score loads of runs at home even if it means he'll average 20 abroad. I think that it's the same with Fulton. We know he's going to only score runs against poor bowling. Although his weaknesses are fairly patent, he can score runs when runs are available. And we simply haven't found batsmen who will consistently cash in like that.

TLDR, flat track bullies are better than 1/30 test bullies.
Absolutely. And his record at home is starting to become pretty imposing - 611 runs @ 43.64.

Lovely drive from Taylor there. Gabriel has been disappointing. I think his action is reasonable and so is his pace. I feel as though he needs to bowl more at or just outside off stump.

In the HRV game in the weekend, Doull said in the commentary (and his partner agreed, maybe Cairns?) that Papps has an undeserved reputation for not being able to play the short ball. Because he got hit (and knocked out) by a Brett Lee 159kph thunderboult on live TV. Doull said that he’s actually a very good player of short-pitched bowling.

I admit, I have pretty much dismissed him as ‘an opener who can’t play fast bowling’. I haven’t watched much of him since, apart from noticing on the vault his new rotund biffer style since moving to Wellington.

I used to dismiss Doull’s commentary as talkback-radio-debate-bait, but I’ve warmed to him lately. He does see a lot of international cricket, but I wonder how much domestics he has seen.

Gabriel going at 5 runs an over, without looking threatening, on the first day after inserting the opposition. Not great.

The danger ball to Papps isn't the bouncer per se, but the back of a length delivery or the good length delivery from a bowler who gets good bounce. Papps subscribes to "if in doubt, get forward" and so he defends and attacks almost everything on the front foot. Papps pulls on the front foot, which is fine against some bowlers on some pitches but is suicide in South Africa or Australia where he had the misfortune to play the majority of his international cricket.

Somewhere in the depths of the vault there is footage of Mitch M getting a length delivery to rise and nip back. Papps comes forward but the ball beats him through the gate and knocks the stumps over. That or the nick to slip from similar bowling has always bee the quintessential Papps dismissal to me.

I don't think he was a good player of the short fast ball but he might be now that Siddons has destroyed and rebuilt his technique. Despite the re-modelling, he does have the mental side down and therefore knows how to score big runs when he's in.

re: Doull, I think he's ok. Not bad, not great, but he can be nice to listen too when he's talking about swing bowling.

Struggling to remember a poorer performance from a specialist fast bowler tbh. Gabriel has been awful. Cotterell is wayward but at least has serious pace. He would have been a far superior option.

Gabriel has had no control, no movement because his seam position has been so bad and he has barely touched 140kph. It's been seriously hard viewing.
