Carberry's play of spin has benefited from attempting to become a 20/50 over specialist. Was kind of limited before without many attacking options but working hard on his short format game has really helped develop his attacking options against spin and the execution was impressive. No way in the past would he have been so aggresive against spin - not that the standard of spin bowling in this game was particularly high.

Carberry could hardly have done any more, combining skill and stamina to make an unbeaten 153 as he and Cook became the first England pair to bat through a whole day's play since Graham Thorpe and Mark Ramprakash in a tour game against South Australia in Adelaide in 1998.

Also they need to take into account how we can hear off-air stuff on the radio.. As Cook was taping his bat up I heard McGrath muttering "DRS".. Still shows how the commentators are human but annoying that they are so heavily censored they can't make those opinions on air.

For years Bellereve vied with Adelaide as the flattest deck in the country. Since the end of the great drought in about 08 or 09 it's played a lot livelier, a combination of climate and, I suspect, a conscious effort to make the games more lively.

550 plays 500 used to be pretty common there, or if there was a result there were often two declarations or more to move the game along.

Geez Paine's keeping was average today. Virtually every ball that beat the bat off the spinners was grassed. Won't stop random punters disregarding that and his FC century tally in backing his Test selection though.

Its a 4 day game, so unless the weather is playing up, no need to alter the batting order IMO. Just declare one or both if they can't get any wickets by lunch to get new bats in.
