Exactly, not like he took piss and joined the English T20 competition while the ashes was on either. Had a very good career and was exceptional on home soil.A bloke who puts time with his family first is considered selfish now?
When he revealed it (late so the selectors wouldn't drop him earlier) was, by his admission, a way to keep getteing picked to the end of the summer which you could call selfish but otherwise, it's his career and he can quit when he wants.
Rogers has put his hand up.Rogers is a class bat who can easily average 50 , hopefully he plays on for atleast 2 years. But yea it"s Clarke Clarke and now Rogers.I also think that Warner is a guy who has character and is a real fighter at the wicket in addition he can score at a rapid pace.So for me these 3 are constants. The rest really selectors will have to think hard and long about.I'd still have Hughes and Khawaja in there, but after seeing Khawaja last innings and how softly he got out its rather disappointing. It might say alot about Khawaja"s mental game as he was on top of the bowlers and he just gave it away.As I said I'd be willing to give him an extended run ,atleast the begining of the return series.Hughes must be given an extended run in the team , selectors must back him because unlike Khawaja , Watson he has shown that he can carry on.If I was a selector I would stand behind Warner Rogers Clarke and Hughes for sure.50 50 with Khawaja but then who are the alternatives.Smith ahead of Watson for sure.Smith has shown fighting spirits too, but its either Smith at 6 or Smith not in the team for me.I'd definitely not bat Smith in the top 5 and the same goes for Watson.Selectors can do alot worse than pick Voges or Maddinson.I was hoping for more from Clarke but I was underestimating the loss of Hussey. We are down to Clarke as the only class bat which allows the opposition to know that they only have to be really on for 1 batter. I also think this is the series where it's dawned on Clarke that its him or bust. Only time will tell if he has the mental strength to keep pouring out runs and be captain. Makes me think of Lara as a great bat who couldn't lead and plunder in a team with no help. Clarkes a better captain but its alot of pressure to be captain and lynchpin. We really need some guys to start consistently putting runs on.
Easily average 50? Considering he is under 40 at the moment that is at best a huge stretch. He is a good player, and a career around the 45 mark wouldn't shock me. But easily get to 50? Not seeing that.Rogers has put his hand up.Rogers is a class bat who can easily average 50 , hopefully he plays on for atleast 2 years. It might say alot about Khawaja"s mental game as he was on top of the bowlers and he just gave it away.As I said I'd be willing to give him an extended run ,atleast the begining of the return series.Hughes must be given an extended run in the team , selectors must back him because unlike Khawaja , Watson he has shown that he can carry on.If I was a selector I would stand behind Warner Rogers Clarke and Hughes for sure.50 50 with Khawaja but then who are the alternatives.Smith ahead of Watson for sure.Smith has shown fighting spirits too, but its either Smith at 6 or Smith not in the team for me.I'd definitely not bat Smith in the top 5 and the same goes for Watson.Selectors can do alot worse than pick Voges or Maddinson.
Only averages 50 odd at FC level(which is obviously really good), this probably won't translate to test level, especially in an ashes series and and SA tour after that, so I agreeEasily average 50? Dravid toured England aged 38/9 didn't he? Shows you that age isn't always such a barrier. I would expect the hunger and grit Rogers has should see him through the next couple of years fairly sucessfullyRogers looks a solid option to move ahead with, just need to hope he doesn't go quickly given his age and you get 2/3 years out of him.
The poster was talking about him hopefully playing for 2 or 3 years and easily averaging 50.I really don't think averages are remotely meaningful after a five-Test career. Especially when one of those Tests was five years ago and contributed ****-all.
I agree but once players pass 35 they can drop off very quickly with little warning.Dravid toured England aged 38/9 didn't he? Shows you that age isn't always such a barrier. I would expect the hunger and grit Rogers has should see him through the next couple of years fairly sucessfully
Well that's not going to happen, he doesn't seem to do anything easily. The poster was talking about him hopefully playing for 2 or 3 years and easily averaging 50.
That is premium given the batting unit we have nowi think with a decent extended run in the team he'll finish with 20 odd test and averaging low 40's. which is fine.
That is similar to what I thought, maybe reach 30 tests at a push.i think with a decent extended run in the team he'll finish with 20 odd test and averaging low 40's. which is fine.
Play on to the 2015 Ashes if form is good enough? I hope soThat is similar to what I thought, maybe reach 30 tests at a push.
As long as his form's good enough then there's no reason why not. Given how long he's waited for an opportunity, I reckon Rogers will need to be forced out.Play on to the 2015 Ashes if form is good enough? I hope so
