What difference would Hussey have made?

When Australia's top 6 was Katich, an in form Watson, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey and North they were still prone to spastic collapses.

It would have at least given us one more experience and in form batsmen to establish partnerships with

Hussey was our second best batsmen behind Clarke when he retired, it was a huge blow, he was one of the only ones left who were clearly test standard

Remember the last series?

I've thought throughout the series how much better things would have been with Huss at 6 too.

The only problem with this is that there is a decent chance that Rogers would have been overlooked if Hussey had of continued.

Nah, think it's far more likely Smith wouldn't have been picked. In fact Smith probably wouldn't have even got his chance in India were Hussey still around.

Smith was only picked after the Warner thing. I still think its perfectly conceivable that the selectors figured that we had enough experience with Clarke and Hussey and the top 4 would have been between Warner, Watson, Cowan, Hughes and Khawaja.

Now, I'm not sure if Smith or Rogers would have been included in the squad as a late call up.

@Maximas 15,000 - another sign that I spend too much time on here..

It's impossible to know for sure but Hussey was still batting at test level so it would have been a help. It may have stopped Smiths pick but Rogers was always a chance in England and Cowans form with Warner's issues got him in. Not sure Hussey would have stopped that. We played Hussey and Ponting against SA so 2 older players can't have been that big an issue.

Hussey had a good method against Swann back in Australia, he would have been less toothless than Hughes/Cowan/Khawaja for sure IMO

Yeah Hussey would have made a big difference given how awesome he was in the tour of 09 and the fact he only ever scored big at home.

There's this thing called form. Look it up sometime.

And as for your second point, how about Sri Lanka 2011? South Africa 2006? etc etc.

So drop Watson or Smith? Still no decent number 3 though?

Rogers
Warner
Khawaja/Hughes
Clarke
Hussey
Watson/Smith

Whatever way you go it looks stronger, so it's safe to say he's missed.

Yeah you just have to ask yourself if the team would have been stronger with him in or not - And its easily yes.

I think he was a bit selfish to retire when he did. Right before two (3) major series with an even more weakened batting line up
