*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge

Yup, that was a shocker and a half, wasn't it. Another contender is Gatting being given LBW to Qadir in the infamous 1987 series; IIRC it hit him outside off and was turning away from him as well. Apart from that, no problems.

Confession time. When I made my previous post I'd only glimpsed the Broad dismissal on the news and hadn't realised that it had gone to 1st slip via the keeper's gloves - I genuinely thought he had leathered it straight to first slip. Ah well.

Don't let him stop you Harry....you fantasize away!!

The way this test has ebbed and flowed I'm not expecting us to do this easily. Would love to see us put on another 100-150 and make this game over, but somehow I think there is some more heart flutters in this one for me yet.
Stoopid media driven controversies aside, I hope this Test has set the tone for the series. I think a lot of people in Pomgolia (and Oz!) underestimated us and while I expect we will lose the series, I expect us to make every match a bloody tough contest.

I'm tipping England all out by lunchtime with a 325 run lead. Australia should score about 150 runs during the next 2 sessions.

If we're only 2-3 wickets down at the close of play then it will be a nail biter tomorrow. If we're 4 wickets down or more then I think that England should mop up the lower order as it's unlikely Agar will be able to repeat his performance on a dry wicket with cracks opening up.

However, if Clarke bats himself in, then anything can happen provided that couple of batsman stick with him.

Yeah they've been brilliant. England have batted so so well to come through it too.

England are clearly well ahead now though. I said yesterday when Patto was hooping it to Bell and Bairstow that they'd either rip through England for nothing or Bell, Bairstow and Prior would hold them off long enough that the tail could make runs, and the latter is what happened. It didn't turn out well obviously but I can see why Clarke used that review on Bell, it was such a crucial stage in the game.
Used the review on Bairstow - it was a horrible decision as it was never out and he was never likely to score any runs

This day will tell the result

Oz will either be very few for plenty in their chase or lots down for not many at the close of play

Know what I have my money on

A draw is out of the question unless we bat for a really long time today
Yeah, for me, if you guys bat until tea, the draw is an option. Could well happen with Swann still to come, though it may seem unlikely.

More than anything, the romantic in me envisions that being the final twist of the day :p

Can we keep all these ****e umpiring clips and comments in the Wambulance thread......this really isn't the place for them.

Probably, but forget about AB, surely right there Dar has made one of the worst decisions of all time?
Again though, I'd say Dar's reason for not giving it would have to be that he thought SRT grounded it.

Surely...

If Clarke makes a big score then we'll very likely win tbh, assuming the total is reasonable - not just because that alone will get us close, but because everyone tends to lift around him. On the other hand, his second innings record isn't flash in the last year or two.
