*Official* First Test at Trent Bridge

Both keepers in his test have been diving about a lot more than usual because of the lack of bounce in wicket combined with some lateral movement through (mostly) latish swing.
yeah that's true, didn't really think about that.

Yeah he is a step above Wade. Its a bit of a shame we had Gilly in its own way. Because now when we need a good keeper they're still looking for keeper batsmen. Perhaps we bring Gilly back until we find a suitable replacement?
Gilly broke the mould for wicketkeepers in that respect.

Strangling the scoring tonight with milestones in sight go both batsmen I'd our best hope of early wickets. Bell deserves a ton but we need to make him sweat a bit.

As I posted in the other thread.

I remember being apoplectic with this at the time but I never for a second thought Geoff Marsh cheated

Bad Umpiring - Aus - SA WC 1992 Marsh was not given out to Allan Donald - YouTube
Regarding bad decisions, I think most of us believe the benefit of the doubt should go to the batsman which is why a bad 'out' decision is always worse than a bad 'not out' decision. For example, while I thought Agar was clearly out stumped, I don't think it was as bad as the Trott decision.

My favourite. A terrible decision in a terrible umpiring series. Pre-international panel though. Umpire's excuse was that he was unsighted 8-)
Funny old series that one. I felt a bit sorry for Bucknor. He carried the can for that debacle but Benson made more howlers in the Sydney match than Bucknor. Having said that, Bucky's time was definitely up. I reckon his eyesight AND his hearing had just about gone.

Sorry, should have made clear that my post contained a link to a completely different decision/series.

LBW shocker

Of course the Sri Lankans all remember the Jayasuriya bump ball incident.

Anyway, I'm sure this will all get moderated soon. Waaaay off topic ;)

Now there you go letting reality bust up my fantasising! :p
Don't let him stop you Harry....you fantasize away!!

The way this test has ebbed and flowed I'm not expecting us to do this easily. Would love to see us put on another 100-150 and make this game over, but somehow I think there is some more heart flutters in this one for me yet.

Hate to be that guy, England, but this is just perfectly set for some incredible, surreal grind from Australia to force the draw.

Anyway, it's hard to be too annoyed/disappointed at the state of the game. I actually reckon we bowled really well apart from that bit with the new ball, but this pitch is dead for seamers.
Yeah they've been brilliant. England have batted so so well to come through it too.

England are clearly well ahead now though. I said yesterday when Patto was hooping it to Bell and Bairstow that they'd either rip through England for nothing or Bell, Bairstow and Prior would hold them off long enough that the tail could make runs, and the latter is what happened. It didn't turn out well obviously but I can see why Clarke used that review on Bell, it was such a crucial stage in the game.

At this stage I'm still hoping the draw is the least likely of the possibilities. Couple more runs and I might be hoping for an aussie block-athon,
