I presume all the talk at the presser for Clarke would have been the Broad thing. Anyone got a link to what, if anything, he said?

The short answer is that everyone knows that waiting for the umpire's decision is just the done thing but claiming a dropped catch isn't.
This isn't a good reason. Everyone else doing it is such a bad reason for doing anything.

There's a consensus, it doesn't matter if it's an arbitrary one.
Yes it does. There's been an arbitrary consensus for many viewpoints (still is for some viewpoints) which we in the modern western world would find wrong or abhorrent. Why is this any different? An "arbitrary consensus" is never satisfactory on its own.

I don't have any particular problem with what Broad did ftr but I too don't see a moral difference between Broad and Ramdin.

Just saw some highlights including that Bell lbw which was rightly overturned on review. It looked stone dead on first viewing didn't it?

Stuart Clark on FSN - bloke a genuine media talent. Very good analyst.

Clark's analysis not quite as earthy as that of Burgeinho when he saw the Broad not out just now.

Cant believe that the ball tracker had it missing by as much as it did though

Ball hit him in front of middle so to be missing my the distance it claimed, it had to be going at right angles

Anyway, looking ahead, if Australia keeps the lead to 300 or so, England will rightly be favourites but the time left in the game gives Australia a decent chance to chase it down. They'll certainly score quickly enough, just need a couple of partnerships.

Jeez this has been a top test match so far. Day three completely different and very attritional, but no less enthralling for it.

Yeah, it depends if we can strike early tonight. A score around 300 won't be easy but the pitch is flattening out (witness how well we've bowled generally without much rewards) and Clarke seems due to go crazy again. Could happen but anything above 350+ is probably unchasable.

Daemon, WAC. He's always right about the batsmen that score big runs against Australia. The ones you least expect, too.

Gooing to be tough against Anderson and Swann. But Clarke going crazy again could definitely be on the cards.

Regarding people raging at broad for not walking and comparing it to Ramdin's claimed catch - when you stand your ground as a batsman you're being passive. You're letting the umpire make a decision because you're not sure. When you claim a catch which you obviously know you dropped then you're taking power from the umpire and actively making a decision for him, which isn't a done thing. That's the distinction imo.

so we are no doubt gonna have to break records here to win this now. Highest successful 4th innings chase is 284, and the lead will almost certainly exceed that. just hope we can get the last 4 relatively cheaply so we still are in the game. It will be pretty anticlimactic if Eng put on another 100+ runs here and finish it with the bat.

Stuart broad is an absolute tosser of monumental proportions, and dar is having a nightmare, but at the end of the day this is really clarke's fault for being so reckless with his reviews.

Yeah Clarke and Haddin made a mistake there. I think its a bit hard on Broad, Dar should have given that out, its not Broad's fault for standing his ground IMO
