Usually not the best for spinners, Swann has a crap record there despite it being his home ground but he got a 10fer at Headingley earlier this season so that tells you all you need to know. The pitches will be dry and will turn. What's trent bridge like usually for spinners? Do we really need to play lyon, especially if we have some better than decent part-time spin options if Smith plays. If Lyon didn't play we could go in with 4 quicks, and it would solve this dilemma - any combo of Pattinson, Siddle, Harris, Bird, Starc would be a solid attack. I just really fear what's going to happen if its Starc, Pattinson and Siddle. If they lose their radars, we are ****ed. There aren't enough steady options in there to hold it together if that happens.
Depends if there is cloud cover with the heat....if there is the ball could be hooping round corners.Judging by the weather forecast that's coming up for next week (Heatwave) the ball is not likely to swing as much as normal.
hmm yeah well I don't think it would be the worst idea to pick a 4 man pace attack with Starc. If the conditions are really conducive to swing, he could be a real game changer. It's just the times in between that he could damage us, but in a 4 man attack it wouldn't be an issue. Having an attack of say Pattinson, Siddle/Harris and Starc in it would make for a very good tail as well. Guess it's gonna come down to the pitch and conditions on the day...although Lyon being omitted probably won't even be considered even if it's ideal for pace bowling.
Would be a strange heatwave to be associated with cloud cover.Depends if there is cloud cover with the heat....if there is the ball could be hooping round corners.
I think it's the worst idea since the square wheel. A four man pace attack means a five man pace attack because of Watson. It's stupid. Heat wave = 20 degrees doesn't it?Judging by the weather forecast that's coming up for next week (Heatwave) the ball is not likely to swing as much as normal.
Bresnan for Finn then?Judging by the weather forecast that's coming up for next week (Heatwave) the ball is not likely to swing as much as normal.
Na it doesn't. The 4th pace bowler for me would be Starc, who provides something very different to the other bowlers (which Watson doesn't). Watson also can't, and shouldn't, have to cover the amount of overs a 4th pace bowler would. In a fairly injury prone attack, it would mean overs could be shared around more amongst the front-line bowlers, and Watson ideally wouldn't have to be used at all and could focus solely on his batting. I personally would just prefer a three man pace attack without Starc, but if it was a choice between a three man attack with Starc vs a 4 man attack minus Lyon, then it would be pretty tempting.A four man pace attack means a five man pace attack because of Watson.
incidentally the temp it was here today. brrrHeat wave = 20 degrees doesn't it?

Spin played a part in the NZ series when it was cold and wet so bound to have a say if it hot and dry.Going by the ****house summers we've had for the last few years yes but it's forecast for 28C which is almost death valley conditions these days. Spin will have a big part to play in this series if it stays as dry as it has been.
Agreed. Absolutely ludicrous idea.Going in without Lyon is a ridiculous notion. So incredibly ridiculous it is not worthy of debate.
Ok, thanks AdolfGoing in without Lyon is a ridiculous notion. So incredibly ridiculous it is not worthy of debate.
