I can't remember Dirtbag ever being outstanding in an ODI why do we keep picking the ****er?
Because he has variations e.g. we've just seen the leg-side full tossI can't remember Dirtbag ever being outstanding in an ODI why do we keep picking the ****er?
Yeah he's not a medium pacer but neither is Dernbach. Dernbach is quicker and younger than Rankin and Dernbach is **** so it doesn't mean much.Supposed to be sharpish, isn't he?
Yeah he's quick and 6"7 so he gets a lot of bounce. He's definitely a loss for Ireland but he never quite lived up to his potential for us. For whatever reason part-timers like Botha, Cusack and Johnston always got the job done a lot better.Supposed to be sharpish, isn't he?
Ahh yes, his "deceptive" slower ball. He reminds me of Saj Mahmood in his pomp in some respects and if that isn't being damned with faint praise then I don't know what is.Because he has variations e.g. we've just seen the leg-side full toss
As ugly as Steve Smith?ugly bowler to face
Yeah Harmison is a very apt comparison in style, but I don't think he's quite in the same class.Rankin illustrates the point. Better fc bowler than odi bowler. shouldn't be anywhere near the odi team. Said in the domestic thread earlier today (before this callup) that I could see him touring australia if(big if) he stays fit. ugly bowler to face. Similiar to Harmison - can be erratic, can be a beast.
I don't think Woakes and Bresnan are really an apt comparison anymore. Woakes has a very good overall First Class bowling record but that average has been blowing out more and more since last injury, while his batting has come on leaps and bounds. I think Bresnan is seen to be a level or two above Woakes on the bowling front; he makes the Test side as a specialist bowler with his batting seen as a bonus or tie-breaker in selection.Yeah it's a handier player type for ODIs. Ireland sometimes just pick 10 of them plus a wicket keeper.
But Bresnan isn't a million miles away from Woakes and they're a big fan of him in tests. And if he's only playing ODIs his style of bowling will probably move towards that of someone like Dernbach, so it seems like a waste of a potentially very useful test cricketer. I guess it comes back to the whole thing about pace at the highest level.
Indeed, but he's already retired from Ireland duty anyway so it's a moot point. He's not gonna play regardless. If Rankin plays in this series for England but is dropped and never selected after, does that mean he won't have enough time to requalify for Ireland before the World Cup?
NiceElliot is a perfect no. 5 for NZ. Accumulates well and is adept at rebuilding an innings after an early collapse.
Edit: should have kept my stupid mouth shut. Dumbass.

Can I say something complementary about Guptill?Nice
