Pattinson looking at sideline again

Was about to post something similar under the heading of selection problems

This guy is potentially a future ATG but he is a young man whose body is still developing

Irrespective of how important the game is, I would be happy to see him sit it out as no-one will care in 6 months, 12 months or 10 years so long as he is bowling

Doherty bowls faster than Lyon, doesn't he? If the pitch is a real crumbler, then it might be worth going with him. The English spinners, especially Panesar, were successful because they were bowling a fair bit quicker than Ashwin and certainly Ojha. Besides, can't get much worse than Lyon.

Lol.

Isn't the point to bowl more and to get into rhythem and gain match fitness.

What's up with the latest Aussie pacers? All of them are breaking down constantly. Maybe we need to export some from Pak for them like our spinners.

Whatever it takes!!!
Come on HB. You should know the Chennai crowds better than everyone else. They are amongst the most sporting in the world and easily the most knowledgeable in this country
yeah.. I was actually telling Benchy coz he was making it seem as if it was a partisan crowd or something. I saw the standing ovation for Clarke when he got his 100, so the crowd was as sporting as any you can expect..

But I still do think crowds across the country have gotten less sporting since IPL.. I just think they have grown too impatient to actually laud the opposition's good cricket in any game..

If the last series taught us anything it's that the home side don't really get to prepare pitches at all in India. They sort of get what they're given
lol.. the sarcasm aside, even if it is being prepared to instructions, the local weather will/can still spoil their best plans.. So it will be interesting to see how the wicket turns up.

Unless you believe WW, the best young fast bowlers in the world are Cummins, Pattinson, and Starc (not to mention Richardson who has just led Australia A to a 7-0 victory over England A)

All are Australian

All are kids

All need rest between matches as they have all proven themselves to be injury prone

No-one will remember this series in 12 months

The cricket world will remember their names for a long time if they are allowed to develop naturally

I think it applies less to the young blokes. Pattinson had next to no work before this test and bowled really well.

The interesting one to come out of the first test was Siddle. He's older and told CA he didn't want to play after the SL tests because that was the best regime for him. He looked massively under done.

Talk about an overreaction

It's one test match FFS!

Last week Starc was the best young pace bowler in the world and Siddle a much improved bowler with an average that guys like Anderson could only dream about

Sure they werent great but nor were they terrible as they werent hit around and would even have taken a couple of wickets if the umpires hadnt left their seeing eye dogs at home

What's more, they were infinitely better than Lyon whose bowling should actually be suited by the conditions
Zero in on one aspect of my post, as is typical - I said they are both fine bowlers...

Maybe according to you Starc was last week the best young fast bowler in the world, or maybe he's a guy who averages in the 30s in both Test and FC cricket, and is exceptional with the white ball.

Not saying either guy is horrible, but as Pattinson showed, you have to be elite to prosper in conditions that are not conducive.

But I want to bat to 11 #NUFANstrategy
Not exactly my strategy. My strategy would see Maxwell in for Starc and say Khawaja in for Siddle *shivers*. Proof that my strategy is a load of **** on occasions.

Ordinary away? Play:

Warner Cowan Hughes Watson Clarke Khawaja Henriques Wade Maxwell Pattinson Lyon.

Now that's a good way to injure Patto, perhaps Siddle in for him :)

Also, it's not the situation for it, Australia want to win, not draw.

Disagree.

It's so arguable they are the 4 best young quicks in the world, I mean Richo doesn't even get a game for SA in four day cricket.

Aus A didn't win the series 7-0 and yes people will remember this series in 12 months Ffs unless you are talking about the Aussie media who will be wrapped up in Ashes fever.

That would be a massive blow if Patto doesn't play. But he is so crucial to the Ashes campaigns that if there is a risk he will pick up yet another injury I can understand the caution.

If Patto doesn't play would Starc still be at risk of losing his spot? Would they drop Starc for Johnson while bringing Doherty in for Patto?

In any case, it'll be fascinating to see how the Aussies bounce back from such a resounding defeat. Great test of character for the fellas.
