Yeah Andrew de Boorder anyone? Also what's McGlashan up to?
Andy de Boorder is still playing, but not near the limited-overs sides and probably out of frame four-day wise too. They suffered a bit from the likes of Hopkins, Tuffey, McIntosh not getting national contracts anymore. In fact I think Auckland has only 3 in the national contracts, whereas ND has about six if my count's right?

Interesting that ND has only locked in 9 of 14 so far. They'll be in the market for a wicketkeeper when Watling is away, and probably a batsman or two.

Yeah I wondered about that too... otherwise a bit of a waste. Is Tuffey going to be fit and worth a contract too?

what's your prediction about the test series beginning from 25th July ????
I think that west indies will dominate again......

An unwritten rule of CW is that neutrals such a yourself must root for NZ because we punch above our weight. Thanks for your cooperation.

Yeah, surely that's just a scorecard screw up though?

In saying that though look who the captain is, hmmmmmmmm.
Shillingford was taken ill at lunch on the first day and so didn't bowl. Hence why dibble Dobbler assad fuddadin had to bowl so many overs.

Therefore it's a pretty poor sign for the black caps that they were shot out so cheaply without this teams best spinner playing.

Flynn out for 1.
Guptill out for 7.

Super.

Good to see our openers getting some much needed time in the middle before the first Test. :@

New Zealand are 167/8

Shane Shillingford 5/65. McCullum got 51, Van Wyk is on 26 not out. It apopears Van Wyk is going to look like a bit of an idiot after this match due to his comments on day 1. Oh well, I do admire his confidence in the NZ bowlers.

Meanwhile, Darren Bravo is out of the first test so the West Indies squad is:

Sammy (c), Ramdin (vc), Barath, Best, Chanderpaul, Deonarine, Fudadin, Gayle, Narine, Powell, Rampaul, Roach, Samuels

Fairly poor in batting without Bravo it has to be said. Still, it's a big chance for either Deonarine or Fudadin to cease that number 3 spot vacated by Kirk Edwards horrific run of form. I would suggest bowling us out cheaply is the only chance NZ have got beacause I can't see them making a huge amount of runs unless it's an absolute road.

Our bowling looks strong though, with Roach in tip top form. It's good to have a spinner as good as Shillingford not even making the squad. Perrmaul and Bishoo aren't bad either. How times have changed!

And McCullum's 51 included being bowled by Roach, a no-ball.

Quite right on van Wyk, didn't seem to be such a minefield when they batted. Although KVW was probably partly trying to offer excuses and make himself look better.

Is Fidel Edwards unavailable or just out of the frame these days?

So Wagner's definitely in the side, and van Wyk is slowly winning me over. I'd like those fighting 30s to be 70-80s etc next week though.

There's not much case for Brownlie and almost none for Flynn. Neither for Guptill but we know he's teflon. Nethula can't be picked and apparently Watling is no good injury-wise. Do we have to pick Southee, play four seamers, Vettori at six, KVW at seven and keep faith in Brownlie after a strong start to his career?

I'll guess at: Guptill McCullum Williamson Taylor Brownlie Vettori van Wyk Bracewell Southee Wagner Martin

There's not a lot of runs in there.

Fair play to Van Wyk and Wagner, they held on for a draw. 181/8, Van Wyk 37 not out. I guess they were helped a little by the fact that Roach was being protected for the first test and only bowled 9 overs but they did well to hold on against Shillingford and Permaul.

As for Fidel, he's been outbowled by Tino over the last year or so, quite comprehensively too. Fidel is down on pace, which was his primary asset really. Whereas Tino has been bowling 90mph plus and has improved his accuracy (still doesnt move the ball much though).

I guess when it comes down to it FIdel is behind Roach, Rampaul, Best and Gabriel (when fit),

Delorn Johnson and Jason Holder can't be too far behind him either. Johnson might even be ahead of him very soon.

Cool, thanks for that.

According to that WICB twitter feed, it looks like some of the shots we played were fairly horrendous.

Yep sounded very much like the spinners had them under control and the likes of McCullum and Taylor played horrendous swipes to try and relieve the pressure.

Luckily for you guys we have one or two batsmen who will probably do the same thing against Vettori (Sammy and Ramdin!). Denesh better not play that stupid sweep shot this time.
