So 137/8 off 70 overs. Williamson with some runs and van Wyk with a(nother) battling 30 odd.

We'll at least know what to expect from Roach in the Tests but whether we can handle him or not is a different story.

Aside from anything else, I don't like all this rain hanging around. If our bowling is Martin, Bracewell, Vettori plus one then I think we are aiming to win halfway through the fifth day at the earliest.

Last night I dreamed we were 5/11 at lunch in the tour game. The only individual score I remember is Taylor got 1.

I wasn't that far off.

From sportal:

Van Wyk says
I think patience is a massive word on this tour. You don't get a lot of value for shots. The wicket is up and down, some turn, some don't, some spit and it is only day one
Also
Van Wyk said he had watched a lot of the West Indies-Australia series in which scoring rates were low and batsmen just had to play as straight as they could while facing as many balls as possible. There was a ridge at one end of the pitch with some rolling and some shooting up and the President's XI were going to have to cope with that as New Zealand had done. He felt Vettori and Nethula would prove a handful on the pitch.
Could be an interesting series....

Whatever makes KVW sound better.

It's not the deck that will be used in the Test anyway - same block, not same pitch - so wouldn't read anything into it. Just means we get less meaningful practice.

If the WICB come out and score millions, he's going to look silly.

Surprised Cricinfo isn't scoring this, incidentally. Shows how much 7 v 8 means

I suspect it's due to the lack of any TV coverage or anything. They quite often cannot cover warm up games.
Meh, if it was England/India etc they'd be all over it.

It'll be interesting to see how Martin and Wagner bowl on this pitch.

Yeah I guess so, in a country where paying a stringer maybe isn't an option to cover it.

Cricket | Will Black Caps flower for Mike Hesson? | Stuff.co.nz

What in the blue blazes gives Millmow the right to wax opinionly like this? No one in NZC likes him, so he's getting no inside tip. He was a pea heart, according to those who played with him, and has proven himself as a fool with typewriter in hand.

Taylor does not fly solo, also.

Not saying Hesson is a great appointment, I've said previously he isn't, but laughable reading that stuff.

Bravo, sir. Well said. His journalistic skills are risible.
