Well dig the thread again, and argue it there. Personally I think the ECB should let him play 20/20, but the rule was there before, let's not make up pathetic conspiracy theories please. Was right FTR

Yeah along with the awfulness of Blair for some bizzarre reason, mind you it's nice we've got a good government now, actually aren't they due an U-turn, it's been about 18 hours since the last one.Think we're crossing wires here Grecian, I'm not talking about conspiracy theories. My article simply argued that KP would never be liked in England.
I just didn't, and don't see the relevance. Putting in all this nationalistic reasons for why he is criticized here, forgetting that his first fall out was with the South Africans, than at Hampshire, then England. Maybe it's not the fault of the countries and Counties, but of Kevin himself.Http://www.cricketweb.net/blog/features/106.php
Here you go Grecian. Pan it if you will but it's not party political. Bizarre that you would say that in fact.
FTR I don't think this government is particularly good but I'd rather u-turns than never listening to anyone.
Does Pietersen really court that much more publicity than those 3?The problem is it's as much an attack on the Press of this country, and TBH everyone knows the Press in this country are scum. You could easily find unreasonable reactions to the likes of Botham, Flintoff and Boycott. They build 'em up and knock 'em dowsn.
The reason it doesn't happen to Cook, Bell or indeed Trott is they just keep their head down and don't court publicity.
Yes, yes he does.Does Pietersen really court that much more publicity than those 3?
Pietersen got slaughtered in the press after our defeats to South Africa at Edgebastonin 0+ and at Sabina Parm in 09 - despite getting 90s in both Testsand pretty much no other batsman showing up. That's the sort of thing he's up against.
Personally think he's become a easy target these days for the media, whenever there's a slow press day a journalist will print some skewed story or something he was supposed to have said just for the sake of having a bit of a bash at him. I don't know if he courts more press but they don't half like writing stories about him, he's a more interesting character to write about than those mentioned, he must be and I don't see why that should be a bad thing. Who'd want a load of quiet reserved players in the side, you need big personalities in this game, makes it much more fun to watch. I mean they're nice guys but you wouldn't want eleven personalities like Trott or Cook would you, it'd be a bit boring in more ways than one.Does Pietersen really court that much more publicity than those 3?

Completely AWTA. People will find any reason to attack him. In fact I remember having this conversation with you when there were calls for him to be dropped after the 2nd test in the UAE. Of course, with hindsight, they were genius calls. As always.Personally think he's become a easy target these days for the media, whenever there's a slow press day a journalist will print some skewed story or something he was supposed to have said just for the sake of having a bit of a bash at him. I used to think he was a bit of arrogant plonker especially when he first arrived on the scene but over the last couple of years I've actually really grown to like him. I also think he's seriously misunderstood by a lot of fans and media and generally doesn't get treated fairly imo. He seems to me like he's matured as a person these last few years particularly since he had his boy. Every interview I see with him, after matches etc it's all about the team and never about him, and he seems to genuinely thrive on his team mates success.
Strongly disagree with this. Firstly I think this concept of being 'un-english' is something that is taken out of the Victorian era which in the modern 21st century has no meaning. There are 1000s of people who live in the country each with their own unique backgrounds that dont fit in with this mould that you have described. It's all part of this very global world that we live in today, as international boundaries get narrower, inter-racial marriages continue to run rampant, and it bothers me that people on this forum and outside cannot grow up to accept the fact that Pietersen is half-English by blood (which makes him about as English as he is South African), holds a valid English passport, his wife is British by birth, has lived a significant proportion of his life in England and plans on spending his foreseeable future in the country. And yet, somehow, there is this perception that he is not English?I think you're in a minority, though. There's a strange relationship between the public and a non-English sportsman playing for England. It feels wrong to hold his nationality against him, but nationalist sentiment is the reason a lot of people support England in the first place. And his personality is so, so un-English, I'd say he's the type of person English people generally hate.
Would have thought him publicly bagging Nick Knight proved that. Especially since others in the team seemingly hold a similar view but are smart enough to not tweet it.Does Pietersen really court that much more publicity than those 3?

Why is his personality un-British? Is he the only insecure, brash toolbox in the whole of Britain? Are Gordon Ramsay and Simon Cowell 'un-British' too? Heck, you don't even have to look too far, just go into the sky commentary team and you'll look at one of the most self-centered, arrogant cricketers of his generation (and that's saying something by the way) in Michael Atherton. You simply cannot restrict a whole population of people by personality type.
To some extent, I feel for Pietersen. You can sense that he has an identity crisis, which obviously most people cannot relate to. Is he a special cricketer? Absolutely. Is he misunderstood? Absolutely. But is he really disliked because he supposedly isn't 'British'? No. He's disliked because for whatever reason he has rubbed a LOT of people the wrong way. He's disliked by the media because he has not shown ANY diplomacy (same goes for the captaincy). He's disliked by his teammates/coaching staff etc because he chooses to vent his frustrations and airs dirty laundry to the public using a public feed like twitter.
