Kevin Pietersen Retires From ODIs and T20Is

Obviously got a bit jealous watching us thrash Australia.

I wonder if he'd make the ODI team though.
An interesting point, he came back to form after years of poor performances in 50 overs as opener, Bell and Cook have rather sewn that position up. Would be a big plus in twenty overs though.

Going through the side the only realistic people he can replace are Bell, Trott and Bopara. All of whom have done well recently. Bopara adds something with the ball as well.

Edit: Actually it's genius from him. He wanted to only retire from ODI's but couldn't, so he had to retire from T20I's as well. Then he realised the man who had replaced him in the ODI's was doing well, so he thought he could come back, and not actually make the ODI team. Meaning he was just left to play Tests and T20I's.

Norwood's on Fire
As much as I love KP, I couldn't believe for one second that he would think things through that much

I think he just wants to play in the t20 World Cup, bet he wishes he'd announced his retirement after that, don't think he's a great thinker. We could easily retain it, and he could be the star, more fuel to his ego and bank account.

I hope he plays because it's our best chance of winning.

Yeah in T20 he's a huge asset, how many players from any country would you pick before him?

It's hard to find details of the workload on a professional cricketer, but is it really any more time-consuming than a pro soccer or pro rugby player? OK, these get an off season, but not much of one if you are in the top flight (of rugby) what with tours to the southern hemisphere, churchill cup etc during the off season. Or there is a Euro or World cup soccer event.

But maybe KP is under a lot of pressure from his other half to be at home more, or he is a lot more family focussed than any of us observers might think.

Who really knows the truth about the real motivation behind his playing decisions? Only he does.....

He complained that he had "never been looked after" by the England management..

This guy is such a bell.. Pick a country where the management do look after you, ****

Yes, massively so.

They'll spend the home summer travelling up and down the country playing fixtures all over the place, both for county and country. An England player playing every single fixture this summer will have played 6 Tests, 13 ODIs and 3 T20Is - a total of 46 days' worth of playing time, let alone travelling and preparation time, between May and September. A Premier League footballer on the other hand, will have 38 days of match time between August and May, and crucially will largely be based around one town or city, and will only have to leave home for a couple of days at a time.

Over the winter, the England players will spend months away from home. Our tour of India starts in October and doesn't end until the end of January - although the players will get a couple of weeks back in England over Christmas. Over the winter the players will barely spend any time whatsoever at home, which is difficult for players with young families.

I get that the schedule is ridiculous, but no need to take it out on the board.. It's in their best interests to have their best players playing for them all the time.. The deep malaise is the cricket overkill at global level, which I guess doesn't show any sign of ending?

OK, I agree your points. But this is the same situation for all of the team and the coaching and back-room staff. Why is it just KP that is moaning about the schedule - or is it that he is the only one who gets reported due to his high profile / courting of fame?

haha you gotta give it to KP. Story brakes this morning in tabloids- then goes and score 234* in two sessions. Takes some balls and skill to plan that.

He isn't the only one, Swann has spoken about it, even Flower spoke about after the Ashes. There's only Swann, Broad, Bresnan & KP that play all 3 formats and the first 3 haven't been doing that anywhere near as long as the last.

I read somewhere that those who play all 3 formats will go away for the Twenty WC and will not come back for nearly 6 or 7 months.

It's interesting this has come out after the report that Flower is looking to be rested and looked after more and his own work load managed.

I really hope he does come back, crazy that this cant be sorted out so all parties are happy, particularly the fans. Always thought there was a chance of him returning for the T20 WC but you never were sure.

As far as him not getting back in the side, maybe not straight up in the 50 over side but soon as we leave these shores he would be just about the first name on the sheet, particularly in the SC where we need a player like him that can score quick, which is the big thing we're missing atm.
