Woodster

International Captain
I like how Woodster said "I class myself as an Essex fan" rather than "I'm an Essex fan". As though people tend to disagree with him on the matter and he doesn't feel as though he speaks for everyone.
Well he wasn't the first Essex fan, so by Logan's Law logic he can't be an Essex fan at all. Woodster should be called something else or the first Essex fan will end up being called things like "Henry".
:D Just to clarify, I do follow Essex, absolutely, but as I live in Manchester I don't attend their games and so don't really class myself a fan through and through. I don't have the inside track on all things Essex, but I have followed them very closely since the days of Graham Gooch, Ken McEwan, Brian Hardie, David East, etc.

With Lancashire being geographically my closest first-class county I do have an affinity with them also, but my brother got first dibs on them when we were kids! But Essex were the only choice for me.

I certainly don't feel as though I speak for everyone on any matter, truth be known.

No Dernbach to go with Ramps for Surrey. Spin twins for Lancs. Woakes back for Warw. And Ben Foakes makes debut for Essex. Ohh and Simon Jones being wheeled out in his wheelchair.

No Linley is more surprising. Why he isn’t playing if Jordan is opening the bowling is pretty hard to understand. Looks like Chris is only playing because the batting is frail.

Be a good test for Philander if the Oval wicket is of test quality (see flat).

Christ I hate been stuck inside revising when there's a game on at Headingley. Feel like a midget being held at arm's length.

Weird, weird scorecard in the Sussex game. Nash on 73 from 103, with the other batsmen both striking at below 25.

the only way that match could get better is if PA Jaques scores 150 off 150

Another 50 for Compton

Katto 135* (158)

Rest of Hampshire 86/5 (218).

Sarwan closing in on his second ton of the season in Leicster. Just a shame for him that the West Indies have so many quality top order Test batsmen in good form and well acclimatised to the early-season English conditions.

On the other hand, had Sarwan scored his first ton of the season - his first ton for months and months - before the test squad was announced?

oh yeah he had, but still it's one ton in like over a year. it's hardly a simon katich case. it's nice that he's back in form. it's a shame for the west indies that he wasn't in form for so long

It's true that you'd be hard pressed to claim Sarwan has been that great on the Test stage over the last few years.

On the other hand, I don't think the tactic of being 35/3 every game is a viable alternative.

it's just...he only scored 2 tons from the 2009 tour of england onwards. now that he's getting back into something resembling form he'll probably be called back into the wi squad. he might even get called into this squad if injury strikes. but being over-looked from the squad was, sadly, fair enough.

Somerset are likely to have 600 by lunch tomorrow the rate they are going. Surrey's gun barrel boys getting smashed, serves them right for dropping their best quick.

It's tough being a frontline spinner in England early in the season unless your a very good spinner(Kerrigan, Panesar) or offer options in the field or with the bat(Borthwick, Young, Rashid). Unfortunately for Craddock and Briggs neither offer much other than their bowling - and their bowling isn't good enough at the moment to get in the team on it's own. But I'm sure both will get more of a go in the second half of the season.
Hmm I wouldn't be surprised to see Rashid getting dropped soon what with Joe Root and his comparitive figures, Durham went with 4 seamers last match.

Wow we might actually get maximum batting points. Obviously Katich the star but really encouraging from
Bates, really hope he can get that first ton tomorrow.
