lol somerset. First Gayle now Du Plessis barred from playing for them.

Another offspinning Opening bat doing well today. Bit too much of a fat irish slogger for me though.

And its entirely possible they'll lose Morkel too.

It's all turning to s*** for them at the moment.

GeorgeDobell1:
Mark Ramprakash has been dropped by Surrey.
Can't say it hasn't been coming. Roy should add to the general feeling of aggresion around the batting order.

Starc's managed to get in the country correctly this time although not in the squad for this week's Yorkshire game.

Yorkshire have also dropped Vice Captain Joe Sayers. I did wonder at the start of the season about putting Sayers as VC when his position was always going to be up in the air with all the batting options yorkshire have.

Surrey 2nds have a few games at Richmond and Wimbledon in the next few days, if I were a bit nearer (and weren't already going to the Oval) I'd think about going along to see Ramps taking it out on the Middlesex and Sussex reserves.

This may well be the end for Ramprakash.

I'm told he was clearly struggling at the end of a day in the field last year - even stood at slip.

Same if he batted for 3 or 4 hours.

Surrey have enough young talent I'm actually surprised they retained him for this season.

Yes, great domestic career, time for him to retire with dignity, surely there will be media opportunities for him?

Why does not retiring mean a loss of dignity? I can't say I'd lose respect for someone who cared so much about playing that they'd continue well past when it was rationally a good idea. Human, remember?

If he's not good enough or fit enough, he ought to be dropped. Retirement is personal.

I was thinking more of the increasingly embarrassing strops which get him banned, not much dignitas in that, if he was just happy to play and be judged on that, I wouldn't have a problem. Less Human, more Brat which isn't terribly becoming for his age.

Fair enough. People calling for retirements rather than drops when the player they're criticising reaches a certain age (Tendulkar, Strauss etc) is just a trend that grinds my gears.

Any Essex fans here? Is Craddock not getting a game because of conditions, or has someone moved past him?
No essex fan but I'd say it's conditions. I think he's in the squad for tomorrows county game. There isn't much work for frontline spinners at present and Essex have a couple of batsman who bowl spin (Westley and Smith occasionally). It's noticeable in county cricket that Borthwick(who is an excellent fielder and decent lower order bat) is played by Durham but doesn't bowl much but Briggs and Craddock who don't offer much other than their bowling aren't playing much at present.

It's tough being a frontline spinner in England early in the season unless your a very good spinner(Kerrigan, Panesar) or offer options in the field or with the bat(Borthwick, Young, Rashid). Unfortunately for Craddock and Briggs neither offer much other than their bowling - and their bowling isn't good enough at the moment to get in the team on it's own. But I'm sure both will get more of a go in the second half of the season.

I class myself as an Essex fan, and I agree with much of what The Egyptian said, I suspect quite strongly it is mainly to do with conditions, and the fact we have a couple of batsmen/all-rounders that can get through some spin overs should conditions favour the slower bowlers.

Essex's strength is in the pace bowling with the acquisition of Charl Willoughby to go alongside the likes of David Masters, Graham Napier and Tymal Mills, with Reece Topley to figure also. I expect Craddock will be vying with left-arm offie Tim Phillips when the pitches do get a touch drier, and unfortunately with so much Championship cricket played right at the start of the season when greener, damper pitches are virtually a given, he may only figure in a handful of games during the season.

I like how Woodster said "I class myself as an Essex fan" rather than "I'm an Essex fan". As though people tend to disagree with him on the matter and he doesn't feel as though he speaks for everyone.

Well he wasn't the first Essex fan, so by Logan's Law logic he can't be an Essex fan at all. Woodster should be called something else or the first Essex fan will end up being called things like "Henry".

While I agree in concept, I can see why people would get annoyed at a player not retiring when they're past their sell by date but won't get dropped for reasons unrelated to performance.

People should be annoyed at the selectors then; not the player. It's not his job to decide things like that; only to give his all if he's selected.
