Congrats Sachin Tendulkar

Whatever it takes!!!
so how good was the knock? I didn't see it.. But I am just finding it hard to believe that a 100 off 138 anywhere on the subcontinent would be a good knock.

where ever I went, the restaurant, room service, everyone was talking about the 100th hundred
Haha. Kind of hilarious if he was actually being hassled by room service. Probably cut off all contact with the outside world and has been subsisting off canned goods for the past few months.

I saw when he was approaching the 100. It was pretty poor tbh, at least in that period. Played way too softly and wasted quite a few deliveries.

Against Bangladesh is just about what this overhyped milestone deserves. It includes ODI '00s for heaven's sake.

Tendulkar on the front page of ESPN's US website. Needless to say that Cricket is rarely mentioned on ESPN or any other American sport site. Garnering more attention for the sport – one more reason to celebrate the man! :)

The sense I’m getting is that because the fans/media have put him on such a high pedestal and overblown everything he does (which is no fault of his own of course), some will do the reverse and underplay his achievements. So basically there is no difference between the two groups then? They are two opposing ends of the same spectrum.

who is underplaying his achievements? watch my post when he does retire.. :)

Basically I just don't post more here about how great this one is for the same reasons I never did when Murali got to 1000 international wickets..

I don't think many people would deliberately down play his achievements tbh.

Suffice to say, if this is how Australia was about Bradman, I don't blame the Poms for inventing Bodyline to try and hurt him.

That's awesome. Yeah the only other time I saw American sports sites mention Cricket is prior to the India-Pakistan WC match.

i think the thing that annoys the most about all this 'it's a made up stat' **** is that no-one's calling it a stat. We're calling it a historic landmark, which it is, we're calling it one time only thing, which it is, and all that sort of stuff, but we're not comparing it to frickin batting averages.
Meh. Made up stat/made up milestone: potato/potarto. I don't remember a hundredth (ha) of this fuss when he passed his 50th test century, which is an actual, proper, honest to goodness milestone just like mother used to make.

Anyway, good luck to the great man. Hopefully he's taken the monkey off his back now.

I think a lot of people are being harsh on Tendulkar. He needed the monkey off his back, and no one thought Bangladesh would win after India put on 280. Such a really pathetic bowling performance that it couldn't even defend a huge total against the 9th ranked team in the world. You can't do much when your main bowlers are throwing pies.

It's not a proper record, but a remarkable achievement nonetheless, and I suspect that when fatt's greatgrandchildren are old enough to enjoy the game, that no one else will have got within a bull's roar of it

That is quite an achievement for cricket, especially since its mid-March.

Anyway, well done Sachin. Time to go on a scoring spree.

The thing is, I'm still yet to see any reason why it's not a proper record, other than it being new.

If Test and ODI totals being combined is anathema, why stop there? Why allow the vast conditional differences between Test matches when you count the hundreds? If Rahul Dravid can add his sublime Trent Bridge hundred from last year to his tortuous 2010 affair on an Ahmedabad road against NZ, why can't Sachin add up a few across formats?

Oh, FFS, it's not a stat record, it's a landmark as has been mentioned million times.

It's like playing cricket across four decades, it's not a direct record...it's just a milestone.
