Butt/Amir/Asif - Spot Fixing Trial

I doubt he does - I think its rather more likely that he's playing the long game and thinks if he keeps on banging on about it he's got more chance of working round this ban later on (said assuming he has the ability to apply for it lifted/suspended at a later date) - personally I think he'd be better off shutting up and going off and working for good causes for a couple of years, but of course there's no money for the lawyers in that, nor from the press, not that I'd suggest for one moment that any third party is underwriting his legal costs, least of all that it's the ************ doing so

The only way, and the only way I would want to see amir play for Pak again (even after he has served his ban) if he works closely with ACU in some capacity.

Would love it so much if they increased his ban. The minimum length, for all 3, was utterly pathetic - given the clear indications that it wasn't a one-off, they didn't accept guilt and so didn't co-operate.

Will be harsh if Asif and Butt don't get increases though....

Amir has decided not to appeal to the CAS for a reduction of his 5 year ban. So I guess we will see him after 5 years.

Would people be OK with him coming back after his ban has ended? I mean he has served punishment by going to prison and will have finished a 5 year ban by then.

It's knotty, isn't it? Yeah, he is only a kid and forgiveness is lauable and all but what he did strikes at one of the most basic tenets of cricket: that both sides are trying to win.

I would like to think that, were an English player banned for a similar offence, the ECB would unilaterally decide to not select him even when he became available.

There’s no profession in the real world I can think of where a convicted criminal is barred for life from employment. If a person does something illegal and then pays his dues (in prison no less!), then society generally allows him to have a second choice. There are murderers, rapists, drug dealers etc who get out of prison and are allowed to successfully integrate back into the world after serving their time.

I know we’re all passionate about the game, but in the end it’s only a damn game. This is not life and death. Why can’t someone who has paid his dues not have a second chance? You have a right to hate them and call them ****s, but I would hope no professional body would allow their personal feelings to get in the way of doing what’s legally correct – that the players should have a chance to be selected again based on merit.

Oh lord.

Yes lets welcome paedophiles back to their new career of primary school teaching. So much wrong with that I'll not know where to stop.

As a lawyer if I was convicted of an offence of dishonesty, even a pretty trivial one, I'd not be able to work as a lawyer again, so its not so straightforward - In Amir's case I'd have no problem with Pakistan picking him again for International cricket, though I would with Butt and Asif
