So the Ranji trophy has gone from a Semi with scores of 89,97,120 and 192 to a final where the first innings is 600+? :p

Didn't the BCCI just release a statement promising more sporting tracks in domestic games? Ugh.

Apparently Rituraj Singh is a 120kph bowler. How the **** do these useless bowlers take wickets in Ranji?

Alright enough whining lol.

You can be a great bowler bowling at that pace if you have impeccable control over swing and accuracy. Asif could bowl all day at that pace and pick up international wickets though he had the ability to crank it up to 140.

Not worried about the pace he bowls at if other aspects of his bowling are great like Praveen Kumar.

How much are first innings points worth, compared to match winning points?
tbf, everything is good in moderation. As much as result pitches are healthy because they produce... results... flat wickets are just as important when prepared minially.
3 points for first innings lead in a draw (1 point for the team in deficit), 5 points for a win (0 to the loser).

Looks like Rajasthan had it worked out to a nicety.

First innings advantage is a bogus way of deciding a winner. It totally ruins the fabric of a 3-4-5 day fixture; no chance for a comeback and all that. Lively pitches, green or turning, is the only way.

Rajasthan had the chance of winning outright, but instad, sat on a first innings lead until it was way out of reach. Hardly encouraging. Sends out a negative message at a time when the Indian Test team needs to get back to winning ways. There's no way these tactics will work at the top level.

Rituraj Singh is small and slow. Let's just see how many seasons he'll last. Already Dhawal Kulkarni, who had a fantastic first season, couldn't keep it up in successive seasons, and struggled this time.

Robin Bist, Naman Ojha, Yo Mahesh and Appanna will be easy picks for India A, but where is India A in the calendar?

East Zone Vs West Zone going on today

Scorecard | East Zone V West Zone | DULEEP TROPHY | BCCI

Currently Pujara and Suryakumar Yadav batting, hope Pujara find his form quickly. 2 wickets for nechim, from what little I have seen of Nechim (in IPL), he looks good.

And Yadav looks like an explosive batsmen, currenyly on 77* with strike rate of 97

Pujara gone but Suryakumar Yadav scores a century
Has anyone seen Yadav's bowling? Can he be classified as a batting AR?
The next Sehwag, maybe. However, with that much aggression while batting, he will get out cheaply often- as he did in the semis against TN. He needs to turn his arm over a lot more often, as much as thirty overs an innings, so that he'll stay useful in the side even if he's out a lot sooner. He started off as a batting all-rounder, but has since played as a batsman, barely a season old, and will have to guard against becoming the next Robin Uthappa or Ricardo Powell. Even Afridi is a very useful bowler.
Love the Duleep Trophy. Such a good comp. Should make it go longer.
Definitely. I'd also like it to run during the Indian team's off-season, with the entire Indian frontline team playing.

Clearly, the round-up missed TP Sudhindra, who went beyond 40- and is the only one. Flat decks is really a problem, but the attitude of the teams is also to blame. Seeing TN, then Rajasthan against TN, scavenging, was dreadful. Teams were not going in for wins. When the Elite league is full of this stupidity, it's not funny. Even the Plate league, despite the lower standard, has tougher competition- as can be seen by the suspension and demotion of the Goa captain. The IPL is a target again, but this particular observation is unique- yet none of these players figure prominently in the league. Agarkar, of this bunch, has been complaining every time he's dropped from the national side, even when he isn't, when a scribe prompts him. He's taken this further down.

Finally, at long last, a result. East Zone wins by five wickets. Dinda and Nechim have taken a bagful (12) of wickets across the match, but it must be argued, this is a very under-strength West Zone (no Rahane, no Rohit Sharma, no Irfan, no Yusuf, no Jadeja, no Patels, no Tendulkar, no Zaheer- not even Dhawal Kulkarni) and the East Zone side was, in the absence of Tiwary and Shukla, heavily loaded. Let's just hope the wickets didn't fall to serial poor strokes. West Zone, it seems, tried to play attacking cricket to wrest back the lead and force a score to win the game- which didn't quite work out. The lack of star players is disappointing, and it takes the sheen off what's supposed to be the premier FC event.

Something to think about- some of the top bowlers in the domestic scene- notably Vinay Kumar, Pankaj Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pragyan Ojha, Ashwin- do really well for their state teams, but struggle when playing for a zonal side. Yet, some of them revel in India A or Board XI duty.

27 year old Stuart Binny from Karnataka has been very
impressive with both BAT and BALL.
Due to his association with the ICL earlier,i wonder whether he will ever be in contention from an India berth
