They have debuted three players in two Tests, tbf.
Granted they have gone for debutants - those guys however were in and around the squad when this panel took over (Warner, Pattinson). So it's not as though they've been all that bold.

My point is more that it's a weak, conservative panel that retains all three of Hussey, Ponting and Haddin. Those are the decisions that require strength.

I also think Hilfenhaus, averaging an OK 28 this year, hasn't done enough and the selectors have just returned to him because he's played before.

Herrick has been in decent form. But obviously nowhere near test selection. Its pretty hard to be happy about Christian and Hilfenhaus bowling pies all day to Laxman and Sachin. Could be some carnage, lets hope Marsh is fit, otherwise we are just a bit weak. Not the strongest team we have put out.

At least we've picked 13, not 17.

I can't believe one of Hilfenhaus or Starc has to play. :(

Play Christian over both and bat for the draw! BAT FOR THE DRAW!

the good thing is there's a lot of left handed batsmen in the indian batting line-up because as we know hilf is totally useless bowling to right handers usually.

Is there a need for 13?

Why didn't they just choose between Starc and Hilfy now, as they both can't be in the 11.

Or do they want to see how Hilf bowls in the nets? We know what happened when he was picked on net form last time.

Make a decision FFS.

My gut feel is that Hilf will only play if Christian doesn't, that's why they've gone for 13.

I think Christian is a lock - back to back Tests, India's perceived batting strength etc.

Cowan is cover for Marsh.

Which means if Marsh plays, Ponting returns to 3.

wait so we think Christian is good enough to play a specialist batsman? It really is Steve Smith all over again

Must be weird for Hughes and Khawaja to be batting now with the knowledge that they've just been dropped.

Rod Marsh a massive Christian fan from way back.

Reckon Cowan's selection gives us a pretty strong hint that Watson will come back in the middle order.

For guys that watch domestic cricket - I can't stream cricket on this piece of **** of internet - what's the verdict on Christian. He seems to be getting a fairly large negative response on this forum despite an impressive season
