Morne. Need a spinner for Kingsmead and I would give Tahir the series. Another quick needs to debut before the NZ tour anyhow. So either there or Newlands for the probable dead rubber.

Not read anything but presumably Rudolph is out of the next test, so Virus to open and a Elgar or Rossouw to join up with the squad as cover for Prince who still needs a score.

Tahir is just happy to be playing test cricket. Don't mind his huge celebrating. Steyn does it too tbf.

Nothing wrong with people actually showing emotion.

Can understand how it'd grate a few people, but I think it's nice.
Nice...Really? I actually like Steyn's celebrations, because they are directed inwards, and are almost always indicative of the match situation. Tahir on the other hand doesn't seem to care what the match situation is and runs off with his hands wide open like everyone should worship him. I'm sure the guy is just, as you said, really chuffed to be playing test cricket (and he is probably very modest off the field), but it doesn't stop him coming across as a bit of a douche tbh. I mean seriously in the context of the match that wicket was completely meaningless...his team mates almost looked embarrassed.

Or they might go with Duminy again but Rossouw made a ton in the latest round of four day franchise matches.

Having two Muslims in the XI is causing problems for Castle. Add Parnell to the mix for the ODIs and Castle might just reconsider their sponsorship LOL

I must admit I'm surprised Castle have been so understanding about it, allowing the Muslim players to omit the logo. Would be a volte face for them to kick up now.

In the EPL Everton are sponsored by Chang Beer and there's never been any suggestion that their Muslim midfielder Marouane Fellaini would be allowed to do likewise. Ditto those who play for clubs sponsered by casinos or bookmakers like Wigan (Ali Al Habsi & Mohamed Diame) or West Brom (Youssuf Mulumbu).

Yeah can seee why people would find it anoying but love him myself.

Was at Lords when Hampshire won a one day trophy a few years back and he looked the happiest of everyone which was lovely to see in an era when overseas players come and go so quickly.

I suppose each to its own regatding Tahirs celebrations.

Personally I find those poses by Flintoff and Afridi more irritating.

I think it depends on the players themselves to interpret what would constitute a violation of the religious guideline. In Amla's case, he doesnt want the logo on his shirt. in the midfielders' case they might not be so concerned about the logos, but refrain from actual consumption of alcohol.

I'm not so sure, actually. If Fellaini refused to take the pitch wearing the "Chang" logo I'm pretty sure there would be a problem. I think all outfield players have to wear the same kit for one thing.

Actually, aren't some IPL franchises sponsored by breweries? The Royal Challengers for one. Kaif & Zaheer both play for them seemingly without issue.

its all up to individual I remember Wasim doing an alcohol ad few years years back, not all muslims interpret the religion in a same manner.

That is why I said that it depends on the individual player to interpret what constitutes as a violation. Islam has a guideline that alcohol must be shunned. Now Amla interprets even wearing the Castle logo as an endorsement of alcohol and hence goes against his religious sensibilities.

The other three players Fellaini, Zaheer and Kaif might not consider just wearing the logo as a violation. They may limit themselves only to avoid consumption of alcohol. so in the end its upto the players themselves to decide what is acceptable to them and may differ from player to player. A request to play without the logo might not be entertained in most teams though given the financial implications.
