Not anything too bad imo. Yeah he could use the depth of the crease a little bit more, but I think he just gets out because he isn't patient enough.you don't think his strokeplay is a bit too limited and he's too eager to push forward without really reading the length properly?
Yup, I'd call averaging nigh on 44 in 24 tests as an opener being a 'startling success', especially considering the balance he gives the side with his role as a 4th seamer.'startling success'? 2 tons in test cricket.....
Since when does a batting average of 38.13 constitute startling success? In the modern era of slightly inflated averages surely this is barely a pass mark.Yeah, since the experiment of opening with Watson has proven to be a startling success in all forms of cricket, let's move him to no. 6.
On ya DD, did you watch it live?what a day to be alive!!!

Those camera replays were from a different camera which isn't in line with the stumps.Just got back from watching a replay of the final session. Wonderful bowling from Timmeh, 140+ outswingers would cause problems for anyone. Now why can't he bowl more than 1 spell per series like that?
Have to say, after watching the replay of the overturned dismissal of Lyon, there have to be serious concerns about Hawkeye's accuracy. There were a couple of camera replays that appeared to show the ball clearly pitching on leg. By all accounts Hawkeye's adjudication on Bracewell's lbw shout against Hussey wasn't too flash either.
Great day to be a kiwi cricket fan. Now lets see if we can't sneak one from the South Africans while we're in a groove.
Look how awkward Dan is at the back.

Well NZ missed his solid batting but ironically enough having the four seamers was probably a blessing in disguise.Look how awkward Dan is at the back.
I can't be the only one who thinks of "Where's Wally" when I look at this?
DWTA, we love Dan but he's very much a flat track bully. Would've struggled on this wicket.Well NZ missed his solid batting but ironically enough having the four seamers was probably a blessing in disguise.

Are you saying Hussey was not out?By all accounts Hawkeye's adjudication on Bracewell's lbw shout against Hussey wasn't too flash either.
As I just pointed out, he actually averages 44 in 24 Tests as an opener. The fact you've fail to distinguish between this & his overall average of 38.13 actually weakens your own argument of moving him to no.6 I'm afraid.Since when does a batting average of 38.13 constitute startling success? I also suggested it so that he can bowl and have a longer period in which to recover before he bats. You could also add to that that the ageing Hussey would appear to be skating on thin ice and there don't appear to be other ready made middle-order replacements.
