***Official*** New Zealand in Australia 2011

iamdavid

International Debutant
Below are the batting averages for Australian batsmen from Sri Lankan to South African to the just completed New Zealand test series.

Hughes 27.69
Warner 76.50
Watson 20.22
Marsh 56.80
Khawaja 29.28
Ponting 26.63
Clarke 45.08
Hussey 45.50
Haddin 22.16

Watson is averaging 16.76 with the ball over his last two test series.
The players highlighted in 'red bold' are under pressure to retain there spots.
What do you guys think?
Hughes is gone for the rest of the summer (unless he does something amazing against the Indians in Canberra this week). He'll be back though, hopefully he's in a better spot technically and mentally next time he's picked.

Ponting will be lucky to play in Melbourne imo. His knocks in Jo'burg and Brisbane might have saved him if the middle order hadn't fallen to pieces again today. But given that another batting collapse in which Ponting played a major part has cost Australia dearly and space must be found for Marsh and Watson, I fear it might be curtains for him.

Khawaja has looked the part technically and temperamentally (besides that awful shot today). But he hasn't made the score which would've secured his place. I expect him to get another opportunity against India, I think the selectors see him and Warner as the future of our top order.

Haddin should be under intense scrutiny too imo. He kept well in this series and made a score in Brisbane. But he's such a fair-weather player, when he's under pressure and the ball's moving around he's practically useless, and given how weak the middle order has been we really need a keeper who'll value his wicket and make a contribution in situations like the one today. Haddin's great for a quick 50 against tired bowlers on a belter, but not the man to prevent a collapse.

Just realised Lord Doug got 3-for in the first innings, seems so long ago. 9-for in the Test, which I think a lot of people may have forgotten.9-60. Incredible figures.

Even more disgraceful that Warner got the award. Is it voted on by the mouth-breathing Australian public?
While I don't think you'll find any Australian fans here agree with this system, a cliffhanger test is probably the worst possible scenario for it because until the last ball you can't know who the correct MoM should be. I think you'll find many of the votes came in before the conclusion of the match. If Haddin and Warner coast to the victory target then the "mouth breathers" probably made the correct decision in the end. Even if we won with one wicket remaining it Warner would have been the correct call.

Very starkly shows up the system for the farce that it is though.

I can't really tell how much of a rip Lyon gives it - because this pitch just wasn't taking turn it seems. Want to see him again on the next wicket.

^He was spinning it huge there - but now I am starting to think it was a turning track. Want to see him on a "normal" pitch.

Cannot be said enough that at one stage the Aussies were 2/159 and trailed NZ on first innings when they only got 150. Props to Bracewell for an immense effort but Warner's knock + a couple of fiddy/fiddy DRS calls hopefully won't mask that some batters should be in real trouble after this Test.
No-one got dropped after folding for 88 at Headingley.

No-one got dropped after 98 all out at Melbourne.

No-one got dropped after 21/9.

Why would today be any different?

One last thing, and the most important.

I was wrong.

Chris Martin, you bowled like a champ. Have a good summer mate.
Is that 4 seasons in a row now that you've called for his head? One of these days you're actually going to be right about that, and when you are it will be a vert sad day for nz cricket.

But at the moment with 8 top order wickets and 2 precious runs, it's hard to imagine that ever happening.

Nah, two.

Apart from India and this series, he has been pretty meh, but credit to him he delivered consistently all series. I can't fault his work to the left hander and he attacked the right hander's stumps for a change. Long may it continue.

IS that some type of record most dismissals in a series with the same batsman and fielder and bowler - excluding a wicketkeeper?

Not Terrible
"If P Hughes is shaving tomorrow and gets a nick," the ABC radio commentator Kerry O'Keeffe said, "M Guptill will appear from the medicine cabinet with a band-aid."
