RTD still has a pretty decent record. He would make most one-day sides in the world, and I'm quite certain we would have him playing for England if we could based on his county cricket.

Was only talking one-day cricket, ftr. I think that's more or less indisputable - we picked Luke Wright for 50 bleedin' ODIs. 50.
Not sure he'd make the test team, but ODI form could well have got him in, justly or otherwise. At any rate he's much better than average county player.

What part of 39 FC average, 35 OD average and 25 T20 average makes him much better than the average county player because as far as I can see it, that is the epitome of an average county player.

That's simply untrue. The majority of county cricketers have worse records, especially given that ten Doeschate can bowl and field reasonably well, and scores at a good strike rate in the limited overs stuff. For a middle-order batsman, all that from a player who averages 35 is relatively rare on the county scene. You're forgetting how many county cricketers are nowhere near international standard.
I'm not trying to suggest he's a superstar, or even much cop as a long-format player at all. But that record would have got him into the one-day side, and since he's been a success in ODIs it's not too much of a stretch to say that he may well have been given a Test at some point.

Well it's obvious Morgan got picked off his accomplishments in the shorter formats and his temperament but so far he hasn't really proved up to it and tbh I think he will go far better abroad than he has at home, not that's saying a lot because you play half your games at home. He's keeping the seat warm until Taylor debuts anyway imo.
