I actually rate the Kiwi's batting tbh. I'd say it's even better than Australia's current one.

That would be why England dropped Eoin Morgan then, and why Australia have dropped Hughes, and why all of England's batsmen have career averages of 50.
2 of them do, 2 of them all but average 50. Great example.

I agree that the NZ batting lineup has a lot of talent but where I think they fall over in some people's minds is that a lot of the time, they give their wickets away through poor shot selection. Virtually our whole top 5 batsmen like to dominate and score very quickly which looks great when it comes off, but when it doesn't, people start to ask questions. You just have to look at the first innings here and the first half dozen wickets to fall were mostly all through poor shot selection.

I think we're really missing someone like Mark Richardson who's willing to just occupy and doesn't worry about the number of runs he's scoring. Just prepared to see off the new ball and take it from there. Perhaps someone who is willing to bat like that doesn't currently exist in NZ domestic cricket, I'm not sure.

The amount of ODI and T20 these players are playing though as compared to First Class and Test cricket doesn't help them improve. That's the main cause I think.

The poll on the frontpage of CW also has a story to tell with a few hundred votes so far:

Do you think enough Test cricket is being played?
Too much Test cricket - 29%
The right amount is being played - 26%
No there should be more - 44%

It's just funny that you used "but most people disagree with you!" as an argument against the claim that someone was overrated. Of course most people disagree. That's the point. It's why you say "overrated" and not just "bad".
Clarification: people who have played cricket at that level. Anyway, let's not divert from the fact that it's an incredibly foolish statement to say experience is 'severely' overrated.

Geez, Doug Bracewell must be a forgiving fella. He has batsmen dropping catches off his bowling all day long and then goes out there late in the day to protect them with a guy running in and bowling at 150K.

Some interesting and fiery discussion over night. Taylor > Morgan and Prior fairly comfortably in my eyes.
Well he's obviously better than Morgan.

I dunno about Prior though; probably about even there IMO. Both are better than Strauss.

Reece Young took a great catch against Zimbos but some of his glovework has been sus - and now he makes yesterdays error. I hope it was just a one time thing and that he puts it behind him quickly.

Bracewell needs to do more with the ball from what little I have seen him in this test. Martin and Southee look like much more of a handfull to face.

Yeah I definitely thing the Taylor vs. Prior argument is a bit stronger. But Taylor is only just entering the batsman's "golden years" while Prior has a slight headstart into this period of his career. I reckon in 2 years now Taylor will be a better player than Prior is right now.

If they were both playing for a spot in the English team without the gloves or anything else included it would be a heck of a fight.

Suffice to say Taylor would get a gig in our top six anyway.

Think he'd get one in every test nation's, actually.

FTR I think he has more shots than Prior, but Matty's been in amazing form for a while now.

Yeah hard to knock Prior's current form.

Was Bracewell not effective? Honest question, I didn't see a lot. Saw one spell in particular where he bowled brilliantly to Clarke in particular - should have had him 2-3 times over.

Weak, Guppy. Weak.
