Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

International Captain
Dave Warner for Tests?

Initially I was dead against it - the idea of a T20 man coming through to represent Australia in the purest, most difficult form of the game...thought he'd never make it

But geez, he's starting to put the numbers on the board

I'm really warming to him
That's it mate. You can only go out and score runs. Since being moved up to open his first class scores are:
99
12
114
1
47
2
48
82
211
148

Anyone bar Bradman would take that.

State Captain
Good on Warner for having the confidence that he could break into the NSW side. So many have gone to other states to find themselves a spot but he stayed and luckily NSW finally gave him a go and he hasn't looked back.

Averaging mid 60s

In Shield terms, it's Haydenesque

Just knocking the Aussie selection door off its hinges

to go a bit back, since his ton in the WORST CRICKET PITCH OF ALL TIME? DISGRACEFUL SCENES......2010 - YouTube match*, he's also got a double ton in the Futures League and a grade 90 odd coming in at 8/9 the day after a ODer in WA eg a match he by no means had to play.

just quietly if Ben Rohrer played for any other state you wouldn't be able sleep for the dull roar of people demanding to know why he isn't in the Test team.

Have to admit when I first saw Warner bat I thought he would be a one hit wonder T20 batsmen, but he has impressed me ever since. I never thought he would ever be close to the test team but giving him a go wouldn't be questionable at all now.

Well done Smith, was a bit worried he would suffer the same fate as other players that have been dropped from the Test side.

Not sure about Warner, he has made most of those FC runs on roads, but he still got them. You'd want to see him score runs on the major test grounds in Australia, which was a criteria in the past for guys like Lehmann, Hodge, Hussey, Hayden, who made a lot of runs on their home pitches but not a lot elsewhere in Australia for a good part of their careers. You would want to se him tested against most of the best state bowlers, not just some Zimbabwe A team or a road at Bankstown against Peter George and co. Seems a bit of a FTB to me so far in FC cricket. Surely 2nd XI runs don't count towards test selection.

Smith's 4th century in FC cricket, not bad for a 22 year old

Certainly he's been underwhelming in the Test theatre

However, you can understand why he was given the chance

Still have high hopes for this guy

Can't believe how well Mitch Marsh is coming along in both facets

Shaun, Mitch...Someone tell Swampy to get back in the bedroom

Declare when Rohrer gets a 100/gets out. Actually that's stupid, might as well bat as long as possible and try to bat once.

His bowling has been really good, but his batting isn't doing anything atm. Would be lucky to bat 8 in a good side with his current efforts.

All fair points but Lehmann, Hodge, Hussey, Hayden, Love et al were all competing with each other. Warner's run to the top is a little clearer.

Good to see Bailey get a wicket

Haven't he and Cullen taken a fall in recent years!

Does Cullen have a contract?

Does he still play grade?
