It's a bit like Clarke's pathway. Except when we made Clarke captain for **** he actually deserved to be in the team. Paine's captained Aus A (off-season), PM XI's (right after the Ashes), VC in T20I (right afer the ashes) and been VC for Tassie for a few seasons and probably a lot of junior ****.

Now he may well be a great leader....but you don't decide your future captain is a keeper. (or spinner). There's only one keeper in a team... It just makes everything more complicated. As above Clarke may not have been the best batsman in all those teams he's captained, but he's been within the best 6.

oh and he'll be captain of the hobart t20 team.

also keep in mind it's more or less certain your keeper become a leader anyway.

Ben Edmondson is playing for Western Australia today. It seems like he retired early last season because he wanted to move back to Perth with his family. I'm sure the Redbacks won't be pleased upon hearing this news.

I certainly don't have it in for Paine, but I've always struggled to see why he just HAD to be the chosen one. He did fine in the games he has played for Australia, but nothing he has done screams 'don't bother looking elsewhere, I'm your man!'

Wade has almost single handedly won this game for Vic. They were in a hole in both innings before he salvaged them. If his keeping is even close to Paine then he should get a shot on his superior batting.

Tbf he didn't get a contract. It's just WA are down like their first 6 seamers
We haven't seen Mark Cameron debut for the Warriors yet. I'm assuming he injured himself in the pre-season, which is a shame because he's a great bowler to watch when fit.

Geez, Dunk beating Hartley for a spot in the Ryobi cup side. If I was Hartley I'd be talking to the other states and seeing if I could line up a contract for next season. With Haddin on international duties perhaps he could play for NSW. Paine and Wade both have Tasmania and Victoria locked up. I suppose SA or WA might take him as well.
Career strike rate of less than 60 in ODD? And they've got Dunk there? Western Australia the only chance and probably only for four day cricket.
Slightly harsh to drop Hartley. He has never been a great ODD bat; however he was Queensland’s second highest scorer last season.
Dunk's been belting the door down for a while, he had to be given a chance. He has the potential to be better in that form than Hartley.
Bite me.
oh why don't you just marry him
Because too many QLDers will want to after tonight.

Hah, gotta love Dave Warner's comments today, most players when asked about possible future test selection say stuff like "I'm just concentrating on a full shield season and scoring runs", but not Warner!!! he said something like "i know its only my first shield match of the season, but I'm ready for the test cricket now". Gotta laugh at that response!!!!!
