*Official* England in India

If anyone needs to be given a chance, it has to be the two technically sound young guys - Sharma and Pujara.

Uthappa had his chance and screwed up. Yusuf Pathan is a ball-thrasher more than a batsman and I'm not sure he's temperamentally suited to any innings that lasts more than 20 overs.

His half-brother could still be an ODI prospect as a bowling all-rounder though.

Not Manoj. He has shown little in ODI cricket. I'd say Rohit, Yusuf or Uthappa.
Don't see Uthappa doing much more than Patel tbh.

Rohit is probably still injured atm, they wouldn't drop him after he did so well against the West Indies.

Are you kidding? When did "Uthappa have his chance"? He hasn't been picked since 08. And he's improved considerably since then. How many fricken changes has Rohit Sharma got? The guy's got like 50-60 ODI's and he's only just starting to perform. Besides Uthappa is a way better finisher than Sharma.

Not sure about how Uthappa will fare overseas, though admittedly I haven't been following his progress at all lately.

Got to remember that we have to be a force outside the sub continent as well, it's the more important issue at the moment as far as the one dayers are concerned.

Do you know the reasons why Uthappa was dropped in the first place?

Indiscipline. And not just with his batting; his general attitude as a component of the team and idea towards self-improvement left a lot to be desired. You can check one of Uthappa's interviews where he himself admitted that he was too ****y for his own good.

Cannot have an attitude like Viv Richards' if you don't have the ability to back it up, IMHO. He may have improved his batting, but I'm still not sure if he's temperamentally cut out for it. Maybe, he'd do well in T20s, but that's about it as far as I see.

He also said in that same interview that he had improved, and u can tell he has. I haven't seen him get into verbal conflicts. Kohli was the exact same (actually even worse) and look where he is now. He needs to be given a chance, if he goes 6-7 ODI's without performing then u can always drop him back. But at least give him a chance, WI ODI's would be perfect.

He's murdering them mercilessly now. Taking nothing away from the two Delhi lads, but it's been a pathetic bowling performance by England today.

There was enough bounce in the wicket and the new ball was doing stuff. Poor discipline and lack of proper bowling plan cost them dear. It's not just the fact that they lost, but the fact that India have done it with such ridiculous ease doesn't look good for the visitors.
