Hmm. If you look at it from a 'building to the World Cup' perspective, the next one is in Australia and I don't think he's going to score many runs opening there regardless so I'd be looking to find a real opener (I'd suggest Bell but a top three of Bell-Cook-Trott in ODIs would be hilarious) and try out Buttler.
Or give Davies a real opportunity.

I love the headline in the newspapers today:

Debutants shine for India:

Debutants Ajinkya Rahane (61 off 39 balls) and Rahul Dravid (31 off 21 balls) powered India to 165 in the one-off T20 game against England on Wednesday.
It's funny because it's true

Random thought: Jos Buttler didn't bat, bowl, catch or keep wicket on international debut. Is that a first?

IIRC, Kabir Ali's debut was rained off but counted as a match anyway because they had a toss, or something like that, so it'd be the same.

Had a look through statsguru, and it's happened quite a few times. Usually in a game where a middle-order batsman has sat through an 8-10 wicket win.

Bit harsh, I thought England missed a trick going to Plunkett and Mahmood instead of Kabir Ali and James Anderson post 2005.

Ali did pretty well on his one and only Test match. And his FC record is amongst the best in England!

I agree he was a crap ODI bowler, too many freebies and floaty drives!
