India : What next??

Genuine question, Do India have enough A tours abroad? Its almost unacceptable that some players like Raina and Rohit Sharma who have been around the circuit for a while now are *that* bad against the short ball. I'm having a look at Raina's list of FC games, and it turns out that he hadnt played a single game for the A team outside of India before his test debut. This is a genuine problem. If you look at someone like Trott or Prior, they'd played a handful of games for the Lions abroad well before they'd been drafted into the test squad for the first time.
It's a big concern IMO.India hardly send their 'A' team to overseas tours now. There was a tour to England last season but there hasn't been any this season.
Unofficial tests between 'A' sides of test nations & between 'A' of test nations & full strength associate sides is what I strongly recommend & love to see..It would help either sides. It will definitely help the players who are about to play test cricket overseas to learn about the conditions of countries like Australia & South Africa, because that's where we struggle the most. And matches against associates will help them gain experience of the longer format.
I can't remember the last time our 'A' team toured Australia or South Africa.

To reaffirm their No 1 status in Tests, India should plan and play to obliterate the next Test team they face, wherever they go. A clean sweep. All comprehensive wins. Win by an innings, 200 runs or nine wickets. After this dreadful tour, that's the only way to come back. No more fightbacks from difficult situations- they stay on top all the time. And they should plan accordingly, and pick a squad to that end.

That won't happen with this current squad. All the players need to be drafted in with adequate domestic experience, and there should be enough balance in the team. We'd like to see selections like Bresnan, Broad, Swann and Tremlett in the side- multirole players, mostly bowlers. Keep the top Test players out of the meaningless ODI/T20I series India usually play, in batches. Study the opposition closely and plan accordingly- something that's worked countless times against India's best players, but never noticed in this Indian side, despite having foreign coaches for nearly a decade. Indian players are researched well, but the Indian team is very poor in research.

If India can capitalise on their strength (batting, with a very strong top five) and beef up their weakness (bowling, with that extra utility bowler), and planning (managing player workload and analysing opposition characteristics), they're capable of wiping out the next team, at least at home. Hang on, it's England! That makes it tough, but not impossible. We'd like to see the kind of pitches laid out for their 1993 predecessors (or even 2008-2010, for the Aussies), with a lot of spin assistance- and two spinners who try to take wickets. After being under the thumb of the English, Fletcher and Dhoni should know enough about the team to strike back at home.

And please, keep Yuvraj and Raina out of Tests!

Of course! Why didn't anyone think of this before?

England are only coming for Odi's, not tests.

Westindies at home is the next test series IIRC.

alas........it was a short stay at the top for India but at least it was good for the fans while it lasted

Guess 'what next' depends on what Indian cricket wants.

Is it to have the most powerful cricket board, the richest cricket board, a top level first class structure, a mega-rich bling bling T20 tournament, the best Test team, the best ODI and T20 teams, authentic leadership of the world game?

All of the above? If not, which matters most? It's not clear from the outside, although the image portrayed is neither pretty or flattering to India as a country.
