Not really surprising though. The standard of domestic cricket in New Zealand is widely acknowledged as being very poor. With that in mind we can't really expect our A side to consistently beat even genuine "emerging players" teams like the ones we're facing here. The main goal of NZ A isn't only to win matches, it's to identify the few players who may have the goods to make the step up to the next level, and to let them experience a higher standard of opposition before they make that jump.Mildly concerning from a NZ POV that they've sent something closely resembling a genuine 'A' team and just got dicked by a batting lineup of 17 First Class games experience between the lot of 'em. The century-maker has never played a First Class match.

Here's the score after the first day of NZ EP vs Aus IS.
AIS were in trouble at 9/2 before reaching 304/5 declared. If the cricinfo scorecard can be relied on (not always a given for non-internationals) it was two wickets for McKay and two for Bracewell - looks like he's having an impressive series. Watling out before the close. Hoping for some runs from Flynn, who I much prefer over Broom to take the NZ number 6 spot.
To be fair McKay went pretty well in the first innings, and Boult kept it pretty tight. Looks to be a pretty flat pitch.Apart from that, not very good numbers from the rest of NZ EP. Concerning that bowlers like McKay and Boult are getting smacked around by this AIS side... even if the pitch is not hugely helpful to quicks.
Yes McKay has put up reasonable (but not exceptional) numbers in most matches this series... Boult not so much. It probably is a flat pitch for this match but that begs the question why none of our other batsmen scored runs.To be fair McKay went pretty well in the first innings, and Boult kept it pretty tight. Looks to be a pretty flat pitch.
Glad to see Broom make some good runs, I think i'm one of the very few here who rate him as a classy longer version player. Would love to see him get a test match or two this summer.
Just realised Broom hit 10 sixes!
And he has a nice action which is a plus.I'm most excited about Bracewell. He's contributed in every game, and nigh on every innings.
An all-rounder who bowls high 130s,swings it away late at a good height and gives it tap at around No.8. A real chance to debut against Zimbabwe in our summer I'd wager.
Hell of an action, yeah. Really economical, can't see too much happening injury wise plus he's a big, strong lad.And he has a nice action which is a plus.
Turns out he didn't...been told he didn't bowl in that innings at all, scoreboard error.lol wtf at Watling bowling
Oh dear.6-0-54-0... ugh.
